My liitle Dodge started doing some funky stuff today. Going uphill around 55mph, it started vibrating real bad. Kinda like when you run over the cut pavement they have at toll stops. I just put the bottom of the tranny together last night. I had to de-bur the governer and I cleaned the valve body(without dismantling it).
It feels like it might be come from the right front, so maybe I didn't goof up the trans. It did this three times. Otherwise its fine. I'm thinking wheel bearing. Weird thing is, no noise's at other speeds or on flat. I'm stumped. Anyone have experiance with this kinda trouble?

    converter shudder?

or what if you the noise starts and you slip down to the next gear and maintain the same speed, does the noise go away?

    :Do No:

Dan - What tranny fluid are you using?

I've heard of alot of trouble with FWD Mopar trannies that have any fluid other than the recommended Mopar tranny fluid!!

As I recall, severe shutter or vibration were some of the symptoms.

It calls for Dexron-Mercron II. I use Dexron-Mercron III cause II is discontinued and III is the replacement. Kinda weird that it uses the same as GM, but thats what is says in the owners manual and on the dipstick tube. I talked to friend of mine late last night with quite a bit of knowledge of these cars. He thinks the lock-up converter is doing the funky chicken. I'm gonna unplug it this morning and see if that helps. I didn't suspect the converter cause these symptoms are different then when the lock-up went bad in my old Somerset. My Somerset lock-up would stay engaged when you were coming to a stop. Anyway, thanks for the advice:TU: We'll see what happens today.

The somerset was a GM, right? All those FWD gm's had that lock-up prob. It could be the convertor, or whatever controls it.

Sounds kinda like a chattering clutchs. Was there alot of grey sludge in the bottom of the trans pan?

So far so good. Gray sludge in pan? Plenty! Also about two pounds of metal! You see, I got the car free two years ago cause the final drive bearings imploded destroying the races and the tailshaft. I replaced all bearing, race's, seals and the shaft for eighty dollars! Then I drove. I guess after two years of metal flowing through the trans it was time to change the fluid. But seriously folks, its looking like the lock-up converter was the culprit.
