A friend had one of those pace cars. It was a dog. My 5.0 notchback Mustang would embarass it (stock for stock).

It looked cool, and was remiscent of a "real" crossram Z28.

A Cross Fire has 2 throttle bodies and injectors instead of one. They run fine however there can be issues just like any other early FI however nothing that cannot be fixed rather easily. Cross Fires are well supported for repair as they were standard on Corvette in 1982 and 1984.

Bar none, the WORST cars I have ever bought are just like this one, Old and Low mileage. Everything goes bad sitting. Figure a new electric fuel pump, filter screen, tank boiling, and probably cleaned or rebuilt throttle body injectors. FI cars do not like sitting. Change the brake fluid, oil, radiator fluid, power steering fluid and expect EVERYTHING to start leaking if you start to drive the car.

I just went through this with my 1984 Pontiac Fiero GM Prototype Convertible. The car has 269 original miles! No, I will not start driving this car given it is "one of one", so the problems I encountered due to the low mileage is OK. I would not want all the problems you WILL have this low mileage car should you drive the car.

I am not a fan of low mileage cars as you can tell. If the car is EXTREMELY unique or a prototype car maybe but an 82 Camaro Pace car is neat but not particularly unique or rare.

Good luck if you buy and EXPECT problems.

  5. low mile cosworth vegas are known for the same thing. several people who bought them after sitting in museums for years found that the coolant went bad and ate thru the tops of the bores and into the sleeves. very costly lesson. Bob
