Not a Buick but a nice cheap car - I am looking to get $500 for the car:
1978 MERCURY COUGAR XR-7 (WITH OPTIONAL DECOR GROUP) This is a 1978 Mercury Cougar XR-7 with the rare optional decor group. All original car with 71,700 original miles (not over 100,000). Equipped with the original optional 400 -V8 with 2bbl carb (*I may be wrong here and the engine may be a 351M. I was told by the second owner that the engine was the optional 400 and thought that until I saw a sticker on the valve cover saying 351M/400"B"). Automatic transmission, Power steering, Power brakes, Power windows, Power locks, Air conditioning, full gauge package (with tach), AM/FM with built in 8 track player, super rare floor console with chrome shifter and storage compartment. Bucket seats (no rips or tears - driver's bucket is a power seat which works). Midnight Blue exterior paint with Chamios color 1/2 vinyl top, Chamios rear trunk covering, & Chamios color interior. Matching Chamios color optional sport rims and side trim. Clear title. This car has been my daily driver for the past 5 years (I bought it in 2000). It was originally bought from Bright Bay Lincoln-Mercuty Auto which is only a few miles away from me (I have the original bill of sale from the dealership plus the original dealer chrome emblem - this car originally cost $8,198 in 1978). I am the third owner of this car. Hate to sell it but we are buying a new car for the family and I would like this car to go to a good home. I had the brakes completely done by a local shop in mid 2005. This car was never in any accidents. Interior is in excellent condition with no rips in the upholstery and no cracks in the dashboard. Rear defroster works. Heater works. Radio works. Intermittant wipers work. Speedometer and tach work. Cons: The transmission is starting to act up on the car. Runs and drives fine but when putting the car in forward after first starting the car, there is a hesitation before the transmission jumps into gear and the car will sometimes buck before running smoothley (You could drive it on the street but I strongly recommend having the car towed or flatbedded). There is an exhaust leak from the front of the car (can hear the exhaust is louder than usual and you can see a small leak on a very cold day - probably a small hole in the exhaust that needs to be fixed. The car was kept outside and driven in all weather so the paint is faded, flaking off in spots, and there is some rust and a couple of small rot holes (one on the hood, some in the bottom of the doors). The chamios exterior is also faded and has some rips in the 1/2 roof. Obviously, if you plan on restoring the car it will need to have some body work, a paint job, and a new chamios 1/2 roof. Air conditioning does not work - when I bought the car I took it to a shop and they said I needed at least a new POA valve. Not sure what else needs to be done to get the air conditioning working but it is all there. Some of the gauges are not working - oil pressure, temp, and clock. The heater switch is broke and will only blow on the bi-level but the heat works great. Driver's side door panel has a small hole in the speaker grill. Power locks do not work. Chrome bumpers need to be rechromed as rust is starting the form. There is a leak in the oil pan seal so the car does drip a bit of oil. Battery tray is rusted and partially rotted through. If you're the kind of person who knows how to work on & fix up cars, this one is an excellent buy. Please e-mail me with any questions. My e-mail address is cgullo@juno.com You can also call me at (631) 218-6895 Thank you. If anyone would like to see pics of the car send me your e-mail and I will send the pics to you.
