Would anyone know what a '76 455 was rated at for HP and Torque figures, and where in the rpm range the figures peak. I think I read somewhere that these engines had something like 8.5:1 compression, Thanks
1976 block HI, just seen your post. On the 76 block. Yes these blocks didn't have much for pistons, only 7.9-1 and yes hp only 205. Now about the block I just put one in my car. I put stage 1 heads on the 7.9-1 and getting about 8.25-1 out of it. Also have to check the crank on these block because my was bad. had to replace with another one. I did put cam in it. It's the TA 110. do to the low compression. HOPE THIS HELP OUT. JERRY ALLEN 1971 GS 455 1999 GSE REGAL
Re: 1976 block Aren't the pistons the same as the earlier 70's pistons (not including 1970)? The drop of .6:1 in compression is a result of the open chamber heads that came out for the 75 model year?
compression I think the pistons are the same, but also changed to composite gasket from steel shim. You can't use the steel shim on late '72-'76 with oval water ports.
now you have to remember in 1970 they went by flywheel horsepower. After 1972 the measured horsepower at the tailshaft of the transmission. Jusst something to think about. thats why all those motor 1970 and before have high horspower ratings. my guess it was makin about 270 to 280 horsepower in 75-76
