66electrafied Just tossing in my nickel's worth

I've had a soft spot for the 74 from the point where my dad was going to buy one and I went with him and got the whole spiel from the salesman. I was 10, and I was hooked. Almost memorized the sales brochure. I've owned a couple of high-option 74 LeSabres, but never an Electra. Always loved the lines on it, and preferred it over the 73. And yes, the "cockpit" dash was nicer too; I've had the 75 and while it was a cleaner look, the 74 was just more appealing to me. I'd have another one in a heartbeat if my wife didn't hate them so much.

Gray or black interiors are de rigueur in our modern daily drivers. Ever look at the marque comparison dashboard/interior spread page in Motor Trend ?A monotonous variation on a dark monochrome theme. Notice, though, what happens when you go upscale (i.e.:50k up cars). Cream, tan ,ivory interiors. This Electra's interior has the an uplifting air of careless nonchalance by virtue of it's disregard for "showing dirt" that it's passengers might deposit. A vehicle which was intended for a driver wearing a banker's freshly pressed gray flannel suit as it's customary companion.Purposefully built for the carriage trade, not a poor working stiff, this Electra could pull up at The Breakers in Palm Beach today and look right at home. And my wife has said "No". Oh well....

That thing needs a BIG cubic inch BBB and all the goodies to run 11.50. Imagine rolling into track with that and going thru tech?
"What does it run?" ......"11s"....."Yeah, right"......

I’ve said before that if I had lottery money I’d like a car like that with a yuge displacement ‘Hawk (800 plus ft/lbs) with a 700rpm smooth idle. Gear it for the highway, hide big brakes behind custom rims that look like 15” road wheels with whitewalls. I’d have nothing on the car visible that looks newer than the ‘70s.

Back 25 years ago there was a Buick Performance group of guys in Brooklyn Queens area. PG built a lot of engines for them. Lot of fast Electra’s , Malibu’s and anything a 455 Buick could fit into.
I loved the big car battles on the conduit and before that fountain .
    Mustangs ruined everything, lol. Really.
