Doesn’t know much about the gear ratio but it’s a project for sure

Friend sent me a screen shot of this the otjer day but I didn't search it out. Sure would be nice to see the trim tag &/or Sloan docs. It'd be a labor of love but I like it!

Trim tag is shown. It was for sale awhile back with different photos. It’s a real stage 1, built Sept ‘71 at the Framingham plant, paint code 48 Hunter green, green vinyl top, white bucket seat interior. Same as mine except I don’t have a vinyl top. This would be an attractive car if restored.

Real Stage 1’s need to be saved, but this one will take some work.

Exact same color combo as my '70 Stage 1 4-sp. Another '72 is on my bucket list but like you, I think I have enough projects.

I owned this car and sold it about 5 years ago. It has only 61k and the floors and trunk were solid. I did send away for the Sloan documents when i purchased it. It is all original and will be a great color combo if they restore it back to original colors.

Showing as sold. Curious if a board member bought it.

Would this have had the lighter green '72 top or were there 2 different green tops avail in '72?

Any idea why the 1/4 has been cut off? Was due to a damage or due to rust? I sure like that car and I hope it gets a new owner that is willing to bring it back to life.

Here is a photo of a really nice '72 Skylark with its original vinyl that was formerly owned by a well-known member of V8Buick. It's a relatively light color compared to the traditional green vinyl tops of previous years. I'll Check my '72 color and trim books later to see what the vinyl sample shows. If this was the only color for a green vinyl top then it would be interesting against the Hunter Green paint.

Hunter Green with the Covert top (light tan) would be an interesting look. I'm surprised four of those were built.

My Hunter Green '72 Stage 1 is one of the common cars with no vinyl top (16 made). We bought it from the original family in 1989 and it had the remains of a white vinyl top on the front half of the roof that was added to the car after the car left the factory.

It has the light green color top. I belive I found it at SMS when I was looking for it. The rear quarter was cut off due to an accident. I purchase an original quarter and not an aftermarket one. The last inspection sticker on it is 1980. The car starts right up and runs and shifts but has no brakes. The green seats were in it but the the rest of the interior was removed. It has white wind lace so the interior was correct at one point. I just talked to the guy that sold it. He said the buyer was thinking about changing the interior to black so who knows what changes he will make. All the exterior chrome was missing but I had found it, including the wheels, and I let it all go with the car.

The guy that purchased it (I was told) is a buick guy but he just did a Pontiac Judge ( frame off). So it sounds like it will be restored.

I bought this 72 stage 1 with 61k miles a few weeks ago it will be totally restored. Its very complete and original but pretty rough, suprisingly very little rust
Green paint, green vinyl top, white interior ...yuck. White interior was swapped out for green interior at some point not sure whats worse

My '70 Stage 1 is Green/green top (was lighter in '72) & white interior. It looks good IMHO. At first I wasn't crazy about the green top, despite that I like green cars, but now I really like it. Glad to see your car will be restored!

    mhgs6472,
Glad to read that it's in the hands of someone that has plans to complete a restoration. The original color combination is one of the things that was most attractive to me but I certainly understand that it's not for everyone. I hope you find the perfect color combination for your taste.

Please consider starting a thread for this car and restoration project in the Members Rides section of the board. Some guys start a thread in The Bench section which gets more exposure initially but threads in that section get pushed down really quickly and disappear.

Good luck with your project. I love the '72s (and '67s).

    will do
wont really be digging into it until late winter/ spring i always stay as true to the original as possible but leaning towards original green paint black roof and guts. However the pictures posted by Dano of the 70 looked really nice too .
anyway I've got way bigger problems than color on that car, one step at a time

Congratulations on your acquisition. I’m glad you’re restoring the car back to its original glory. If you can swing it, you may want to order the quarter panels an outer wheel houses from the parts place while you still can. There is a board member from Arizona who posts sheet metal for sale in the parts for sale form He just posted quarter panels a while ago. I forget his avatar off hand right now.

I think it would look even better with the lighter '72 green top. When new, the darker top on mine almost matches the paint. Regardless, the white interior looks very good.
