on a engine stand or at least out of the car.
car is a non a/c car and need to see all the brackets ( ie;alt and power steering) and pullys,
so i can see what brackets i have and what i need...again its a non air car.
    thanks for any help

71-72 non-AC cars have a heater hose bracket that is much longer then the 70 piece, and I don’t think any of the pulleys are the same for the 350 vs 455 motors.

All the parts you are asking about are shown and labeled in the 72 Assembly manuals.

For 72, you also need to know if the car is a 49 State car, or was built for California.

If built for California, then there are all kinds of different pieces used, including an Air Pump plus brackets, an extender for the oil fill with a completely different cap, etc……..and I don’t remember offhand, but the 350 calif cars might also have had an EGR valve. (The 455 cars had them.) Which would be a different intake.

My advise is to purchase a 72 assembly manual and go through it. That would give you all the part numbers. Otherwise you might never figure out what would be correct.

I want to mention 1 other thing, your car is a 72 GSX, I don’t know if that changed anything for 1972 or not, but depending on the year it did affect certain parts.

That is also something you need to look at in the assembly manual.

    ok looked over the shop.
i have all the corext power steering brackets and all the corect alt brackets.
only question i have now (since im looking at the picture alec posted).
the water pump pully i have is a 2 groove and the lower crank is a 3 groove.
this is a non ac car...but the engine was a a/c car.
so do i need a single upper and dbl lower pully...?
    thanks again

ALEC...on your engine pic does that engine have a 2 or 3 groove lower pully? i see it does not have the power steering belt on in the pic im assuming the power steering belt only goes around the crank pully and not the water pump pully?.
    thanks for your help

I do have a 3 groove crank pulley, I’m using the 2 groove on my 455. As long as everything lines up number of grooves won’t matter. But belts will be slightly longer with ac crank pulley. Yes steering is the most inner groove and does not go on water pump.

As @Duane said, an assembly manual is your friend here. Ppl might be more inclined to help your cause to post that it's for a GSX too and not a "Skylark." Also nice that you thanked ppl for their help in this thread (unlike prev. - Your're welcome:)). Glad to see you also took @LARRY70GS's advice and stopped using all CAPS:).

The pulley configuration would depend if the car was originally (unlikely) equipped w/HD Cooling (I3), power steering (likely & you seemed to indicate it was), and A.I.R. (likely although most '72 GSXs were export so...).

    This should be your pulley config. W/or w/o HD Cooling & w/PS & A.I.R. 16692257401388035131691984929091.jpg
