Hello guys, I have a question here. I'm looking to purchase a 1972 limited and it has a passenger side mirror, that doesn't look to be factory, can anyone tell me if they did make a passenger side mirror for the 72 electra limited, because I would like to start searching to find a good replacement. The aftermarket mirror takes away from it, and if I remember right they only had just the driver's side, any info and/or pictures would be greatly appreciated. thanks much fatboybuick
Passenger side mirrors (on full size cars) have been discussed in detail in other threads. In summary the mirror was available as a dealer installed option. They are pretty rare. They look similar to the drivers side (mounting base shaped the same, two ribs around the back) but they are not remote controlled. My '72 Electra didn't have one originally, but I found another '72 Electra in a junkyard that had one. Needless to say I promptly liberated it and put it on my car. Really too bad no one is reproducing them. I'd like to add one to my Riv. I wouldn't even care if it didn't have the Tri-Shield logo on it which is correct for '70.
About 20 years ago, I owned a '72 Limited 4dr that i drove every day.It had a passenger side mirror and it was a manual adjusted mirror.The engine spun a bearing and I junked it,unfortunately. I wouldn't do that now! I have a '74 LeSabre Luxus convertible that has a factory passenger side chrome remote mirror on it right now. I just got a pair of the bullet style sport mirrors,which are both remote, that I am going to install on the '74. The chrome ones are nice,but I like the looks of the sport mirror much better.
