I own a 1972 GS455 that I think is a late production car, but I am not sure. The Sloan Museum shows that it's a true 1972 GS455 convertible, but I am unsure of the production date. The vin ends in 110799, which is the production sequence number. The "Date" shown is "09/20". Does this mean 9/20/72 or 9/20/71? Any help is appreciated. Morris
Hi Morris - Your car is an early production - the 10,799th car off the line (for whichever plant it was built at) for the 1972 model year. It's 9/20/1971. Your cowl build date will further break it down for you. The 3rd line down will also have an 08(A, B, C, D, or E) or 09(A, B, C or D) for the body build date. Any pictures you can share?
I can't find the start date for the 1972 modelyear, but the 1973 modelyear started at September 21st, 1972. So when the 1972 modelyear started 1 year earlier on (let's say September 15, 1971), do you think that 1 single factory could produce 10,799 cars in such a short period ?
No. The model year usually started in August of the prior calander year. 1970 models started August 1969. I guess 1973 was late due to the design/retooling changes impacting the production line.
1974 = Sept 27 1973 1975 = Sept 27 1974 1976 = Sept 25 1975 1977 = Sept 30 1976 1978 = Oct 6 1977 So if anybody knows the start date for the 1972 model year, please let us know o No:
I have 1972 model year 08B Flint cars in the registry, which means the body was assembled 2nd week August 1971. You can check out the registry at http://www.stage1registry.com/registry.html
Why don't you load all the photos at http://www.photobucket.com And post the link to the slideshow on this board. Much easier :TU:
Actually, they are all posted in my webshots account, which is embedded in my signature. I'm not familiar with photobucket.
