I found this searching the web, I can't go myself so hopefully someone here will get a score. I called and asked questions about it and supposedly it is a mint car with two engines, including the numbers-matching original motor. It is reported to be a really nice car and I guess from the looks of it, the guy must've passed away or something. Here's a link to the auction ad...it looks like the auction will be held about 40 miles northwest of Columbus, good luck. Wish I wasn't going out of town!!! http://www.hajacksonauctions.com/05-22-08.htm Sorry, it is a 1971, not a 1972.
Just to let eveyrone know, Bellefontaine is about 1/2 hour north east of Columbus. It sounds real close to the GSX prototype.
Actually, northWEST of Columbus, right on US 33. Gillispie's owned a Buick dealership up until the 1980's in Bellefontaine. Their son, Bo, is still a car dealer in the Bellefontaine area today...super nice guy and I believe is a member of this board. This is probably his car. I don't know the car personally and don't think I've ever seen it. I will not be able to get away tomorrow to attend the auction although I wish I could. BTW, it's pronounced "Bell-fountain" not "Bellie-fontaine"...we speak good english here in "Ahia"...
Oops. Yes, you are correct. North-west. And we do speak much gooder english here up north here in Ohya.
For a professional auction company...they have a very very poor site and limited information reflects badly upon them. They should at least have 4-5 pictures of the car, details and other pertinent information. I would not waste my time dealing with a "micky mouse" operation like them.
Well, if I was going to be in town tomorrow I would certainly be there...I talked to the guy and from what he says, it is a VERY nice car. If anyone is going, let me know!
Well,I went to the auction yesterday.Turns out the 71 GS is owned by long time friend and GSCA member Bo Guillespie. Those that know Bo will confirm how nice his cars always are, this was no exception. After the bidding got to $15k there was only me and a local Buick guy still in.I took it to $19.5k before dropping out,the gentleman got a fine car.Even though we came home without the GS Sandy found some antique things she wanted so we spent money anyway. And,I got a chance to catch up on things with an old friend,a trip worth while. gary
And the guns went way out of my range...:ball: Gary, Thanks for bidding for me. See you at PINKS. -mark
What did the Winchester Model 12 sell for? I have one myself and I'm curious what people are paying for them (I'm not selling mine).
Hello Buick Guys and Gals! I want to thank all the people that made mention of the Auction in Bellefontaine, OH on the Gillespie 1971 GS. It was truly a NICE GS WITH MATCHING NUMBERS MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION, PLUS TA ALUMINUM HEADED NASTY 455 UNDER THE HOOD!! Being born and raised by a father who was a Buick dealer, I had a great opportunity in the 60's to drive a lot of Buicks and I had a lot of fun doing it. I still have the trophy that I won driving my mom's NEW 64 Lesabre convertible in H/stock automatic and that was just the beginning. The buyer is very happy with the GS. As to the comment about the auction site, I want to offer that this was actually my mother's ESTATE SALE. I elected to include the GS with very short notice, which did not allow a lot of "promotion" and advertising of the GS sale. The auctioneers are "car guys" and have probably sold more cars than some people have seen telephone poles. I was happy with the sale. Again thanks for the comments. Bo Gillespie
