https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-buick-skylark-14/ Right in my back yard, any L.I. guys know this car? Three on the tree A/C vert seems rare.
That would be INCREDIBLY rare. Could easily be a 1 of 1. I didn’t know you could still get three in the tree in ‘72.
There was a recent thread about a 3 on the tree convertible. Can't remember if it was the same car - Novel/rare but not necissarily valuable although this one is bringing strong $ w/7 days to go. Odd that the last bid was a $6k increase.
I think even a GS w/the std. 350 still came that way in '72. I looked at/test drove a '72 Sportwagon w/3 on the tree back in the late 80's/early 90's. Only col. shift Buick A-Body I ever remember driving.
Cool. One of my first vehicles for work was a 68 Ford pickup with 3 on the tree and manual steering and breaks . Talk about a work out. Never had to go to the gym . Lol
I currently have a 72 Skylark Convertible that came 3 on the tree. Pretty much the same car but different color. I converted it to a 4 speed as it was easy since it had the correct speedo and pedals etc. It was for sale for a long time before I bought it so didn't think it was that desirable at the time. I think it's rare and should be worth more haha
This one was posted back in Sept 2021 when it was on Craigslist for sale. I remember it because of the original owner being Our Lady of the Lake. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1972-three-on-the-tree-convertible.371667/#post-3231914
I seem to recall another '72 Skylark Custom 'vert 3spd on the column which was claimed to have been the result of a misunderstanding in the ordering (options) process .... if you didn't select your desired trans, then the default trans was the 3 spd on the column. Now, THAT would have been an interesting moment to be a fly-on-the-wall when the Buyer showed up at the Dealer with the Salesman smiling and holding up a shiny set of keys.
Funny thing is it would've looked like a column shift auto at first. But then those 3 pedals... Probably worse than my special ordered low option '70 Stage 1 4-sp that I assume the dealer mistakenly ordered w/a Rallye clock instead of tach. Much easier to add a Sun Tach. Or the special ordered low option '70 Stage1 4-sp I looked @ that I assume the dealer checked off the worng box & orig. came w/a Rim Blow Steering wheel.
That's been repeated ad nauseum in this hobby. But I disagree. I would much rather have something that is rare, if for no other reason than not being that umpteenth guy that has an orange Camaro. I have a '66 Bel Air 2 dr with a 396, Holley 4bbl carb, manual brakes and 3 in the tree. Maine State Police car. And yes, that's the way they came. Rare? Definitely. Desirable? Maybe, maybe not. Big bucks? Definitely not. But a helluva lot of fun.
Saw a red 72 skylark convertible, white top and interior with a 3 on the tree for 8 grand. Check out the leverage on that long shifter
How would one register that car in a state that requires a title? In Maryland you must have a title. I wouldn't want to have that fight with our MVA (MDOT). Certainly there must have been some title for that car at some point.
When I bought a '72 Skylark from Mass. several years ago I had to have a NOTARIZED bill of sale since that state did not issue titles to cars that old just registrations. Once I had the notarized bill of sale it was no problem getting a Maryland title issued to me. Now my son just bought a 68 GTO project without a title and we will be going through a title service company to get a Maryland title issued in his name. It's not cheap but it we won't have to deal with MVA at all. Ken
I recently bought a car out of Maine, and they do not title cars that are more than 25 years old. You can't get one if you want one. All I had was a bill of sale. So find someone in ME to register the car for you, then get a bill of sale from ME
