It might be an HP but it is not a stage 1. I think the HP status may be in the VIN.

Ahh, fond memories. I had the exact same car back in '74. That was the best running, smoothest Buick I have ever owned! I couldn't deal with it not having power windows so I sold it.

Not a full stage 1. The WA code engine is the Modified high performance 455" found in the Riv GS and optional on the Centurion. Sort of a middle man engine between the base 455 and the A body stage 1

No such thing as a Centurion GS . W code engine does not gaurantee the Stage 1 Valves. Just like GS in a Riv doesn't mean Stage 1 Engine . Its a handling package

I had the Olds version with the 455 back in the early 2000s.....best road car I ever had, even with the cut coils and low profile tires that were cool back then. I know where it's at, just been sitting in a shop looking exactly the same since the day I sold it, but I haven't got the room for it anymore.

Luke... what was the torque rating on that 455 Olds? A pal had a 1970 Olds Delta 88 with a 455 2V, and he'd rev it in neutral and that bad boy would lift up 2-3 inches just from the torque. My '74 Twister (Toronado) wouldn't do it. Loved that car!

Nick... Where's that 65 SS Chevelle at now? Was that shot taken on Massasoit? ws

Mine was a special order by a tech at the Olds dealership in Great Falls, and I was the 2nd owner. He had ordered it with the W-30 (documented), so it was rated at 350 hp and 460 ft-lbs (it was actually a '71 and not a '72 like the Buick being discussed in this thread, but same/same). That car would chew up and spit out a few unsuspecting muscle cars that just thought it was a lowrider. I took the Mach 1 to a cruise night 60 miles away, and I wanted my Delta there too, so I let my Dad drive it for me. A guy in a 383 Roadrunner 4 speed pulled up next to me and wanted to race (I had the nitroused Cleveland in it at the time and it ran 11.80s). I told him if he could beat my Dad in the boat behind me first, then we could race. Pops blew the guys doors off and once he got about 15 lengths ahead the Roadrunner gave up and turned on the next street. Never saw him again. That is the one car I miss more than any of my others, and I've had some pretty decent iron. I'd update the wheels if I still had it and wouldn't touch another thing. Was stone stock and mint other than a hidden stereo, cut coils, wheels and tires, and some Flowmaster knockoffs in the dual exhaust. Dammit, Bill! Talking about it makes me want to go get it back even more...............

That pic shows my brothers '64 SS behind mine and my Uncles newish '73 GP in front of me taken on 64th st near Oak Park Ave. He didn't own that car very long. It was a true SS with console, buckets and a straight 6 w/PG trans. He traded up to a '67 Skylark 2 dr.HT after the Chevelle.

WOW! Just around the corner from Little Joes'; I know you remember that one for antique stuff. Remember the really weird custom Eldorado(?) at the NE corner of 63rd and Harlem? The "Prime and Tender" club? That was a hot spot back then. And Mr. Charlies at 63rd and Central. Is my age showing yet??? That was some funnnn times !!

I asked about the 64 (still cant tell the 64-65s apart) because a good friend in Hodgkin's owned one. It was a true SS as well but dig this. It was an SS396 with a 4 speed/12 bolt car with factory AC and tinted soft ray glass. I believe it was a Z79(?) option group. Like 20 built that way. By the time ol' Butch was done it was tubbed with a small block with tunnel ram. Fast, but gone forever at that point. Damn memories.

So Luke, that Twister had the no-hump floor and you could literally stretch out on the seat like a couch. On cruise control with the bech seat all the way back, and only the left index finger and thumb on the wheel, she'd roll along at 75 and never break a sweat. So me and the (then) wife were at the World of Wheels custom hot rod show at McCormick Place. All the women back then thought it was a fashion show so they all played "dress up". Marilynn was old school and no exception, except that kinda stuff really "pushed her button". By the time we were back onto the Stephenson' Expressway in Chicago she was ready to..... ws

That is an extraordinarily handsome Centurion. If parking was really that tight you needed a Vega with power windows lol

Wow Bill, You remember some things I had long ago forgotten about. That weird car you referred to was some kind of mish-mash of parts with a heavy dose of Studebaker as a base. Very strange looking thing that sat there at least ten years or so. Wish I would have taken a picture of it.

Mister Charlies and P & T were always hoppin'. My guys hung at Sound Factory , Touch of Class or Pete and Marys. Good times for sure!

Your buddies Chevelle you mentioned. If what you're saying is correct and it was a factory SS396, that would make it one of the 201 Z16 Chevelles produced in '65. An ultra rare and valuable car. One sold recently at B/J for a buck fifty+.

I still get my Z codes mixed up, but yes, it was a real 396 car WITH AC and a 4 speed. When my pal "Lugs" got it it ( Lugs came from always losing lug nuts off a 1967 390 Mercury Cyclone GT convertible with a 4 speed (!!) it was already small blocked. His cousin in Hodgkins ordered it NEW! In later years I realized the rarity of it. It would've been a TUFFF restoration on that one...

Did ya ever hit the Leaning Post at 49th and Central? A pal owned it when we were all motorcycle enthusiasts; HRF... Hog Ridin' Fools. Hung out a lot at Munch Choppers at 3923 Archer across from the bus barn. Then there was Fast Ernies at Archer and Central. His motto: Warm beer / Lousy service. A lot of us referred to ourselves as the 171 club; we hit every tavern from Damen to Harlem, and by 3 a.m. it was 50 guys drag racing up and down Archer from light to light... We should all be dead. I managed to survive.

I cant even recall the number of times I left Mr.C's and P&T with a gal on my arm. Thanks for the mammaries!!! ws
