i just bought a 71 skylark cust..has a gs hood, and spoiler.also came with bucket seats ,and console ,uninstalled.after instal. the sifter , i went to install the console .discovering the shifter top is one piece ,and cant possibly go on the solid crome cover on the console.all the pix i can find show the top coming off to clear the console ,but mine is four sided solid!!i made a u shaped shifter from stainless ,with a removable round top for know ,as i already cut the shifter off my colum ,but would like the orig. if possible. also the one i have may be rare ,and of use to someone if identified .i also see that inside brackets are used on the inside of bucket seats .i just dilled two holes for the bolts .why do you need the mounting brackets ?? thnx for any help!!o No:
If it's a factory shifter.............. Very carefully pull the center top chrome plastic piece from each side of the shifter handle and lift it up off the handle. Be VERY careful as it's VERY easily broken. Remove the bar and springs and that will expose the screws that hold everything together on the sides of the handle. Lift the handle off. Now you can slide the console down over the handle. If not a factory shifter............. Post a pic of your shifter.
i just went out and took pix ,but dont see how to post them .the handle appears stock ,but who knows . if the top comes off , you need stronger glasses than i have! thnx for the reply

Your shifter appears to be from either a cheverolet or maybe a earlier Big car it is not the correct for a Buick A body from 70 to 72 I'll post these up
