I stumbled across a car in Old Car Trader but I can't post the link as I'm too new to the forum. I'd like the group input on the car. Can I pm the link to somone so you can post it for me?ray: Thanks Peter
Daren, that's not it. The car is in Weed CA. Sounds like a charming place. Apparently hours from anywhere, no offense to anyone in the town. I'm looking for a project to do. I'm new to cars but I have restored a 1970 Triumph motorcycle and I'm currently working on a 1930 Harley VL with a side car. I've looked at the usual chevelles, pontiacs and such. I really like the GM A-body verts and I'm looking for one. My cousin is a Buick nut, but I never thought much about them until I found this add. Might be too good to be true. I'll email the owner and see if I can get some info. peter
yip thats the one Peter sent me to post for him. http://adcache.collectorcartrader.com/10/6/9/90054469.htm
So I know its only one picture but I know nothing about Buicks. I like the A-body style. What should I be looking for to document a GS when I call? Is this a desireable car? Were many made?
Get the VIN You can decode the here http://user.dtcc.edu/~rod/buick/buickvin.html And here are some production figures http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/buick-gs/buick-gs-specs.shtml#production Nothing really to look out for. Would be nice if its matching numbers. Not sure where the VIN is stamped on a 71 350 block, but its on the front of the block under the alternator on my 72 350. Its digits should match the last 6 of the VIN. Usual areas for rust are quarters and floors (under rear seat too) It looks like it has a bench seat, but if its buckets it most likely isnt original. I know in 72 that there were no convertible bucket seat cars. (except for a couple SCO cars). make sure it has its dual snorkle air cleaner as this is the prized piece under the hood of any GS of this body style Good luck with it, you wont regret a Buick...
Don't forget trunk rust either. but other than that they stay pretty solid. oh and the cowl area too under the windshield. (but seeing as that's been redone once it maybe in good shape.
The advert says that it is not a numbers matching car. If the engine does not match, it might not be so important that the trans does. None the less the VIN is stamped into the TH350 casing. About the only thing of importance to confirm it is a GS on a 71 is the VIN. Everything else could be added or easily changed.
Looks a little bit like mine except for the wheels. Mine is a fake, however, but I like it just the same. It's a real convertible, has a real 455, and the VIN # matches the title. Good luck, I would look around a little, on ebay and here on this forum. You might find one just as good or better and closer to home.:TU: Edit: Here's one right here that looks pretty good and wouldn't take as much work. http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=139286
Tim, where does it say it isn't a matching numbers car? Also I tried to email the seller and my email was returned undeliverable. Makes you go HHHMMMM.
