Anybody know if there is a quality aftermarket aluminum rear diff cover available for the 71 Buick Skylark 8.5 10 bolt rear?
Yes there is.. Check the Summit catalog in the bathroom.. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SME-8510300/ Glad I could be your "search bitch"
The 1971 1972 buick rear cover is very unique as it appears the same as a 1964-1970 buick 8.2 cover BUT is a 8.5 cover and in the aftermarket they only sell the one that is round. SO if you want an original you will need to find one in the junk yard or I have a few nice ones here to. If you need a chrome one you can have your original chrome...But will be costly if your not chroming anything else. Jim reference pictures below.
Would settle for a regular fined or polished aluminum one but don't want something that looks cheesy.
Are there any fit issues putting a round aftermarket cover on the 71-72 rear. Are the indents/cutouts found on the factory cover sides necessary for proper fit? As posted here and in my searches I only been able to find round aluminum covers but they are listed as fitting the 71 8.5 10 bolt rear. Some are really nice covers but I don't want any fit problems.
i believe a round cover will fit with no problems.. i learned alot about 70-72 rears this year... I'm glad the 455 car has the 8.5..:3gears:
Re: 1971 8.5, 10 bolt rear diff cover question Thanks guys, got a nice one off e-bay to put on my rear when the gears get changed! Nice HD unit with a drain plug for less than 100.
