Hi I have an 71 pontiac 455 325 hp stock engine in my 68 buick skylark. what should be the timming set at,thanks Denis
I would just power time it per Larry's thread here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?63475 Devon
Two questions. 1) Who put a Pontiac engine into a buick? 2) Do Pontiac's like the same timing as buicks? I always hear on this board that Buicks like 32-36* and all in by 2500rpm. I have always wondered what other makes like for timing.
Pontiac engines like a little more timing than Buicks. Buicks don't need or like as much due to the fast burn head design. I'd say your 32-36 is more what Pontiacs like. With iron heads, I've found (in my 30 yrs of racing) Buick 430-455s like 30-34 max. Aluminum heads can get away with 34-38 due to better heat dissapation. Remember all say 4 deg of extra timing is going to do is give a little more bottom end at the risk of detonation. Not worth it IMO.
