Got my carb back from Rob Ross- thank you sir!!!!
Been using a syringe and some needles to drip Marvel down each valve stem. Then bolted on the rocker covers..
Changed the oil….which was BLACK and smelled like 20 year old fuel…
Hoping to start her up this weekend!!!

Spent a little time on the car today. I am doing the Mike Phillips Maguires #7 paint save.. Saturate the paint with Maguires, let the oils leech into the paint... Once conditioned, it can be buffed out and such... I did one coat and polished it off, to see how nice the factory Dipolmat Blue is.... still has some pretty damn nice luster!!!

Whats the popping sound ?
Paint looks like it will shine up really nice are you going to put a vinyl top on the car and just enjoy it that way ?

 

The popping is some backfiring... My goal today was to find out why it wasn't running/ idling.... Larry had me start by running a wire from the + side of the battery to the + side of the coil... and the video above was the result. I ohm'ed out the coil and the coil is good... So, it's either the resistance wire or something else in the harness... once I get it squared away, then I can time/ tune it...

 

Have you done a leakdown test yet? Rule out the mechanical. I only say this cause I've had "pips" in the idle that I thought was a lean miss turn out to be valve guide wear.

In between fighting with the distributor and old a** wiring, I thought I would try and lightly buff the PASSENGER side…. I am using Turtle Wax the one, followed by maguires polish.. I may change this up and try different compounds and polish…

 

Yes…. Once I get the car running… lol. I think it is the gap between the HEI conversion- the pick up and the magnet… I will adjust that to spec, then check if I have spark… if not, the points will go back in and I will use a ballast resistor…
