1970 skylark grill vs gs grill

Would it be considered "period correct" if I replaced the standard grill on my 70 skylark custom (conv) with the GS grill?

So at the time (1969/1970), does anyone know if a swap could have been done at the dealer?
I don't want to make it into a gs clone, since i have stock hood, badges, etc.
Thought it might make the car look a bit more awesome, but didn't want to raise issues at any shows, offend buick enthusiasts, etc.

    Any insight or opinions?

I'm sure back in the day you could have had the dealer do it. Extra $ for them. It may bother some people, but not most. Bottom line is do you like/want it.

Can't say whether it would be considered "period correct" or not. I can tell you that my 1970 Buick Skylark Custom convertible had a GS grill on it when I purchased the car. I didn't have to go to too many shows to find out that the GS grill was factory "incorrect" for my car, a Skylark. I did some research and discovered that the Skylark grills have not been reproduced, so they bring big money when you can find a nice one for sale. Funny aside to this story - After replacing the grill with a factory correct Skylark grill, I took the GS grill to a large swap meet (Spring Jefferson) and was walking around with it and within 10 minutes of walking, I sold it to a GS owner who walked up and bought it and paid for it in multiple $100 bills, with no haggling over my price!

I believe you have to change the hood as well with the 70 if you use a GS grille instead of the stock grille. Jim/Rott

I find that they come up periodically on eBay.
I would suggest you place a search or on your "watch" list via eBay, as they come and go quickly.
Most are in used shape, but can be fixed up with patience I think.

The GS types are reproduced, and can be found for $450 (when on sale) if not NOS.

The GS grill works fine with the Skylark hood. That's the exact combination the Stage II cars used.

The 70 has a blunt nosed hood, much different than the 71-72. I used a 71 hood with 70 hood chrome molding, and a 70 GS grille on my 70......Jim
