Car is a 52K mile ,original paint ,1970 Saturn Yellow GSX Stage 1 4 speed non AC car, so is factory equipped with the deep 3.64 posi rear axle.

Car dropped #7 cylinder exhaust valve, late summer of 1975 ,so because car was just out of 50 K mileage warranty and just out of 5 year time warranty the disgruntled original owner pulled engine out ,shoved everything into the corner of his shed and forgot about it until I bought the car about 10 years ago.

The goal is to retain the less than perfect original paint and interior.

The underbelly and rolling chassis was just not good enough to keep, so I decided to put the body on the rotisserie and concours restore the underbelly of the body, frame and driveline.

Plan is to show complete rolling chassis at the 2023 GS Nationals.

Wow Rich, looks like a really nice survivor. Love how you are preserving the original paint but taking the car to the next level in the process. Can’t wait to see it in BG

Cool, any idea of what happened to Dave Agee’s car?

Awesome Rich. I really like your plans for this car. If a GSX retains most of its original paint and it's in decent condition, I think it's wise to keep it rather than repainting the car. Original paint cars are really hot now, even if they are far from perfect.

Yes it will be a restored car underneath and engine bay with original exterior paint and interior.

Body on the rotisserie, note the Saturn Yellow overspray on to the underbelly of the body tub.

...nice project, you can do a lot of underside work for price of a paint job. Hate it when cars are stored in unheated/dirt floor sheds. IIRC we were still in 12/12 warranties in '70:)...

Guys like you and Jason are making the right calls - there are different paths rather than a "one size fits all" answer to restoration.

Is it safe to assume the underside will include a repaint of the rockers?

Rich- are you going to try and save the yellow overspray or replicate it? Would be nice to see drips and runs of fresh Saturn Yellow under there....

I would think about dry ice blasting. It would return the floor pans to 1970 and save the original overspray.

The underbelly of of body tub will be media blasted, epoxy primed ,body worked, blocked out, painted 15% low sheen black like Fisher body did followed by draping off body at rocker pinch weld and duplicating what Fisher body did , meaning attempt to paint underside of rocker and let Saturn yellow paint to drift in on to the underbelly of tub.
