Why, that car is a little bit of 70,71 and 72. Interesting car,,,,,,

Has an automatic cluster with a 4 speed???? Wonder what the car really was?

I've seen this car in person myself. It's on Shepherd just south of I-10. It has promise, but it does have rust in the quarters, around the back window and in the roof. It's looks like it was originally an auto (as someone pointed out) that has been converted to a 4-speed. I didn't test drive it since I found another lead on a 1970 and wanted to check this one out before I purchased. IMHO it's worth about $5-6 given the work still needing to be done. Like I said it does have potential, but you will need to spend time and money fixing the rust.

BTW-This lot has a few classics that have potential. When I was there (about 1 month ago) they had a 66 Impala 396 and a 66 GTO (I think it was a 66, not a gto man myself). Anyway, it's worth a look on the GS. He may be very flexiable on the price. Good luck!

I just got back from the dealership. The dude was a complete ass. Hah. Wouldn't start it for 5 seconds. But it doesn't matter..I'm going to try and take a loan out. Maybe I can talk to him about lowering the price but I doubt it. Anyways, wish me luck on the buy.

Like I said, it's worth investing and making it a hellava nice ride. I would have probably looked more closely, but I had already made the deal on another one. Did you guys talk price?

    Good luck on the buy.....

Pretty sure this is the same car as this one:

it was on CL for a while, I think the price dropped down to $4k-$5k and it got picked up, then flipped on eBay for around $7k I think, probably to this guy. Needs a fair amount of work and has quite bit wrong with it for $10k. You can find a lot of cars nicer than that for comparable money in my opinion.

binaryeyes Oh where can my 'Lark be?

Yeah, He said if I was to put a down payment it would be 4-5k and the rest payments. But, I'd rather take a loan out and get it totally away from that guy.

He said "If I came back with some money he would start it and let me test drive it" I wonder why he couldnt just start it.

Jrbobdobbs1 - Did he start it when you looked at it? Or did you talk to him? (He had a balled head and was sorta tall and skinny. Had a slight accent)

Either way, I drove from Alvin, texas to see this car in person..and the fact he talked to me for a total 3 seconds and said "come back with money" just made me pissed...there was no one there so he wasn't "busy" maybe he thought I was'nt serious because of my age. But if he was a smart saleman he would do anything he can..because kids have parents!!!!

Wish me luck on the loan guys...my mom just faxed it to the bank a little while ago!!!

Yo Binaryeyes...the $5K he wants as a deposit will cover his ORIGINAL purchase price...THATS GENERALLY how USED CAR PLACES OPERATE...THE DEPOSIT THEY ASK FOR USUALLY COVERS THEIR ORIGINAL INVESTMENT!!! yA KNOW, THE buy HERE/pay HERE places...with just $1995 down!? AND THEY'LL FINANCE THE BALANCE? yea. THATS how it works. the $1995 is what they paid for the car!!! ...HERES WHAT I WOULD DO.....First, I havent seen it, or heard it, or would I even consider buying that car for 10K because theres too much NOT RIGHT with it IMHO, PERIOD. AND like others on this board that have replied...I dont think thats a 10K car.....AT ALL. But if you want it....heres how you handle it. CASH TALKS BS WALKS.. Go to bank. Get your 5000 in cash. Go back to this guy BRING A FRIEND. JUST SHOW the seller your wad-o cash in your pocket, DO NOT GIVE IT TO HIM YET...ask him to start it, YOU DRIVE IT...LIKE YOU WOULD DRIVE IT..not a pansy-butt kinda cruise around the block...DRIVE IT....then, DO NOT MAKE HIM AN OFFER..SIMPLY throw the $5000 cash on his DESK and ask HIM to count it. THAT IS YOUR FINAL OFFER FOR THIS CAR!!!! ...and with 5K in HIS hand, its awful HARD to turn down CASH-In-HAND! If he accepts it..KEWL..if not and he starts balking..dont say another WORD...pick up your money and WALK AWAY.:bla: .there are better deals out there especially in todays market. WALK AWAY. Put the money back into your savings account till you can find the right deal. I'm not saying this way will work for every opportunity, but THATS the way I would handle it...and YOU should too. :beer Wheelz, Tampa Bay

I talked to an older guy that looked like a mechanic or something. He did start it, but I didn't drive it because it was blocked in with a couple of other cars. It's a pretty small lot and they have a lot of cars. Anyway, did you make him an offer. I agree, the car has many different parts from different years, but it does have potential if the price is right. It's hard to make a complete assessment unless you see the car in person. Keep hammering him on price. I didn't check, did it have disc or drum in the front?

I seen a lot worse go for a lot more money. Not to say it was right, just what I've observed in the old age.

    Good luck on your purchase.

binaryeyes Oh where can my 'Lark be?

He didn't give me time to even talk..sorta just said 4-5k down. I'm not going to let him finance me...if I'm buying it...I'd rather have my bank finance me instead. Because the dude was a prick.:blast: I'm going to try and have someone go up there again with me when I have the cash to try and get him to take some $ off of the price. But I don't know anyone really that has that sort of Knowledge. I take ya'lls opinion of it not being worth 10k over my "Need to have it" emotions...if he will drop the price...even a grand or two..I'd feel alot better.

The rust that I saw on it didn't bother me much..I can always just save up to get it fixed. The only thing that is bothering me is the "unknown" under the hood...I don't want to get something with major problems in the engine, tranmission, suspension etc etc.

I'm still waiting on the responce from the bank on wether or not it has been approved or denied. I'm praying hard and I've got others doing the same.

My dad and mother don't have vehicles right now (My dad flipped his truck, and my mother got hit by another vehicle and totalled hers) so if I get this car..my car is going to my mom and my dad is already looking into another truck.

To be honest I can't find any other car like this around that price...they are all 20k and up...this is the cheapest I've found a gs within my area (somewhat) So I'd feel like crap just walking away from it without even trying.:(
