I KNOW YOU ALL ARE GOOD AT DECODING THESE TAGS, IF YOU HAVE THE TIME HOW ABOUT SHARING SOME INFO. THANKS!!! HERE GOES...

Are you sure that the 26 is not a 25 or 28? 26 is stratomist blue, a special order color on an A bodied buick in '70. 25 would be gulfstream blue, a somewhat rare color of blue and 28 would be the more common diplomat blue. Anyway:

TR 185 would be the pearl white interior
26B would be stratomist blue with a black top, but i believe the 26 to not be correct (as it was a special order color, and I see no SCO ident.), although I could be wrong.... I'm by no means an expert on decoding this stuff.
03 C would mean it was built the 3rd week of march, 1970.

    Chris -

Riviera color special paint GS's had an 'R' in front of the cowl paint code.

An SCO would be like a color of 'opel rallye orange' that a car has in the Stage1 registry (Ramlark on this board). His cowl states SCO-433 PNT. There were 9 convertible SCO paint codes in 1970 and 36 hardtop cars.

Glad to share Chris - we're all in this together! :TU:

What I don't know is why do some trim codes have a 'Z' in front of them. Where's Duane when you need him...

Is there any other location for the Fisher body code if the cowl tag is missing and I want to have it reproduced. Is it in the Sloan data?
    Thanks

Sloan can give you everything except the cowl build date (for your '72).

With the information collected from the Stage1 registry, we could probably 'best guess' your cowl build date based upon the VIN.

    black top -- white interior?

DID I READ THIS RIGHT, BLACK TOP W/ A WHITE INTERIOR. WAS THAT COMMON BACK THEN? THE CAR HAS A WHITE TOP ON IT NOW, CAN'T
REALLY PICTURE IT W/ THAT COMBO. IT'S BEEN REPAINTED , I BELEIVE A PONTIAC AQUAMARINE BLUE. I'LL HAVE TO FIND A PAINT CHART TO SEE WHAT STRATOMIST BLUE LOOKS LIKE. THANKS FOR THE INFO. GUYS!!!

Re: black top -- white interior?

Yes, you read that correct. Stratomist Blue is a very beautiful color, as 1971 GSXs were available in that color, and 1970 and 1971 have the same paint codes.

    Here's a color chart -

    Marco,
So that's what my car is going to look like when it's done. It's a shame it didn't come with a white interior. I guess I better get started on it soon.

All we can tell (at the moment), is that 1416 1970 GS 455 convertibles were built.

625 had a white convertible top
475 had a black convertible top
315 had a brown convertible top

Why these three numbers add up to 1415 and not 1416 is beyond me. I'm only giving information I received.

There's no telling what top these cars had, but 349 GS455 convertibles were built with trim code 185.

Sorry, but at this time there are no figures for black tops/white interiors. This is the best it gets, unless Sloan can find a huge budget to get all the VIN information off the microfiche and into a database. Then these queries can be run. I suggested this to Andy at Sloan and he told me he'll bring it to the attention of his superiors.

The problem with microfiche is it degrades each time it is handled and eventually it will become unreadable. :ball:

Cool Sloan info! Does Sloan have breakdowns of colors and or options available for all years or just 68 and 70? Do you just pay for research time?

Stratomist Blue is one of my favorite colors for a GS, too!
