Just double checking. I assume, that at this point there is still no way to upgrade the 1970 Skylark peg-leg 2:73 to a better posi (like 3:23 or something) without major work. Last time I checked it was "switch to an 8.5 buddy". :(

We can get your 2.73 into a posi or if you find the 3.23 gears we can get you a posi for that ratio to. NO MAJOR WORK INVOVLED.

So we can get you posi units 1968-1970 Buick 8.2 ratios
    -2.56 2.73 2.93 3.08 3.23 3.42 3.64

We have aftermarket 3.42 and 3.64 They are expensive BUT direct NO mod bolt in parts 459.00 a set.

    We have a 2 series posi for 2.56 2.73 2.93 gears 3.08?

We have 3 series 3.23 and 3.64 after market gears

we have 3 series for 3.08 3.23, 3.42 stock gears

ALL depends on how much muney you have

Posi units are 419.00 for either 2 or 3 series

We also can help with th e 4 series posi unit with a bushing for the driver side bearing I am now confident we can make them hold for performance applications too. Jim

    Just PM or keep this thread going if you have questions. Jim:3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:

Whoa! What the heck happened? I would like to able to buy a complete kit in which I can bolt a 3:23 posi in my car. I don't know what you mean by the different series though. I can tell you though this car will never see race applications with high HP. The current 2:73 gears provide blah acceleration and a freeway cruising speed of Mach 1, but I remember going from a 3:08 to a 3:27 in my 93 5.0 Mustang and it was the best money I ever spent on that car, hands down.

    Derek,
The Posi carriers only accept certain gear ratios. The 2 series accept 2.56-3.08, the 3 series, higher ratios. Jim has aftermarket 3.42 and 3.64 gear sets for the Buick 8.2, and he can make the posi carriers fit. He can set you up with whatever you need.

Get the 8.5" and have Monzaz build one for you or get a solid core from him to redo....best way to go and much cheaper.

I can supply the whole kit NO problem EXCEPT for the 3.23 gears as I stated they will have to be used from someone here on the site. Might want to start a thread in the WANTED section to get them.

New Auburn posi set up for your 3.23 gears is 419.00

Bearing kit for the 10 bolt 8.2 68-70 is 95.00 Includes the following parts:
    2 carrier bearings and races
1 inner pinion bearing and race
1 outer pinion bearing and race
    1 Pinion seal
    1 pinion crush sleeve
    1 pinion nut
    1 rear inspection cover gasket
1 carrier pack of carrier shims
    1 pinion pack of shims
1 marking compound and applicator brush
    10 ring gear bolts

New 3.42 or 3.64 ears are 459.00 and will fit the same carrier as the 3.23 gears.

I also want to upgrade the rear in my car to a posi with deeper gears, but finding a rear that makes the job cheaper has been problematic. I've missed one or two locally in yards and two on ebay. Spending $ 1000 on a complete unit is possible either way, especially if the driveshaft has to shortened. Oh yeah don't try to tell me I have an 8.5 in my car, it is an 8.2 Buick and my car is a 71, what a stroke of luck. :af: :af: :af:

Someone remove the original rear and installed the 8.2"

Did you look at the axle code and build date?

I have not started trying to figure out if this was a replacement somewhere in my cars life or if it was born this way. My car was built at the end of april in 71 so I would think that is late enough to have been built with an 8.5. :puzzled:

Post some pictures will ID it it for sure for you JUST so you are sure your not making a mistake. Could be a Olds 10 bolt 8.5 too that got stuck under there. Please post a picture of the rear cover area and will help you out. Jim

Thanks for the reply Jim. However I have already used your website to ID it as an 8.2 buick, great info available, thanks. I looked on the housing for numbers and I found one on the center casting on the passenger side. I think it is 1382700 or maybe 1382780, anyone with info please chime in.
