I don't usually comment when posting a lead but curious what you guys think of this one? I see maybe a dozen little things that aren't correct (sans some missing stickers & part markings which I won't list but feel free to point them out). I don't however see anything that'd be a deal breaker plus wondering what I missed. Not that I'm in the market but if I was, I'd definitely consider it upon further research/inspection/etc. Surely an in-person inspection would reveal some other little things that don't show up in pics but overall it looks really nice to me. Presumably it belongs/belonged to someone on here &/or someone knows whose it is. Also wondering who restored it. I like the Stage 1 w/PW & tilt but no A/C if that's how it was originally equipped. Something a little different than the most common GSX configuration. I requested a copy of the Wayne Roberts. I'd like to see the judging sheets & will request when/if they send the Wayne Roberts. I did not (yet) ask the price. I'm nitpicking here basically & please - I'm not trying to offend anyone if it's their car or if they restored it - It appears to be a beautifully done car. Just kinda having fun and pretending if I was sitting here w/the $ & was in the market & wanted you guys to critique it... TBH, I don't see too many restored cars I'd seriously consider but this seems to be one I would: Heater hose bracket - Should Phosphate coated Driver's side hood/HL bezel alignment (looks like an adjustment could make it a lot better) Hood stripe too glossy? Gas tank straps should be galvanized Brake booster should be gold cad plated Bevel on tailpipe ends? Front spoiler too glossy? I'd change the dash woodgrain to Marc's new repro but can't fault the restorer there Door strikers should be painted Something weird in the driver's seatback Radiator filler neck not aligned properly Hood latch should be gold cad plated I'll leave it that and see what you guys come up with: https://www.hemmings.com/classified...lert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021-12-14
I had a picture of that car on my garage for the last 30+ years. Dano the only real issue I see from the picture is the driver side hood to bezel clearance there is none. Could be a simple adjustment.
Heater Hose Clamps, gold and red Heater Hose bracket, Phosphate i think Rear Shock lower bolts (someone was making these once) Transmission Modulator NICE CAR!
No clamp on the upper overflow hose coming from the tank to the clip on the side of the radiator. Just saying....
Brake boosters and hood latches were not cad plated but were zinc dichromate plated as long as its getting scrutinized.
WOW , You guys are tuff . I would say most of the restored cars are over restored . never came off the line that way . Can't wait to read the remarks when I put my car up for sale . Oh it doesn't have the correct Stg 1 heads , it has iron stg 2 heads it has the wrong intake , has the B4B , part of the stg 2 package It doesn't have a stg 1 carb , it has a holley 850, 4187 , part of the stg 2 pack It does have the correct 1970 air in the spair tire LOL Love your GS !!!!!! Bill
We all enjoy our cars and that's all that matters. We're just borrowing them anyway until these bone bags wear out.
Yeh, I would not put mine out here either, and mine is a survivor. Sad part is that i have "heard" people left the board because their cars were picked apart.
i just hate painted door strikers correct or not. they always stand out, and look like crap after a few door closings. i would rather have them phosphate coated or something similar.
Fred, I’ve never posted photos of my unrestored GSX for the same reason. I enjoy my GSX just as it is, warts and all. Even at the 2021 GSX Reunion I had a few “friends” come over start pointing out things that are “wrong” without me asking them their opinion or asking them to judge my car for me. I have a lot of cars and not all of them have to be perfect in order to be enjoyable. In fact the roughest cars are the ones I enjoy the most. Carry on…
The reality is that no car is perfect, no matter how skilled the restoration specialist might be, or how "perfect" the restoration was judged to have been done. All restorations, even those that have been done by the elite of our craft have flaws and shortcomings. The more a person strives for perfection, the more elusive it becomes.
