I have the following short block for sale that i purchased from a board member that i no longer need. I have decided to build a different combo. 1970 455 shortblock had 30k miles Block thermal cleaned & mag checked Std/std crank was cleaned, mag and polished Std. bore Honed w/torqueplate in place Decked to a .025" deck height Factory pistions were glassbeaded and reused - nicest original set I have ever seen. Assembled with Clevite 77 main & rod bearings (.002) Speedpro plasma moly rings TA dual feed cam bearing new freeze plugs This is how the ad looked when I purchased it. The block has been stored in a heated garage and is in excellent condition 1000.00 plus shipping but would rather local pickup or maybe meet someone halfway. Engine is located in Lawrence, Ma 01841
Not to hijack the thread, but I built & sold this shortblock to Ozzy. It is a nice piece, and is exactly what the ad reads. As far as HP, it would depend on the rest of the combo. This is a nice foundation for a low dollar but powerfull Buick:beer
Thanks for chimeing in Eric. I remember you telling me that the 413? T/A cam would be the choice for this shortblock combo. As far as the estimated HP I would guess anywhere from 450/550HP would be possible with good flowing heads and the right cam. Thanks again for chimeing in as I didn't want to offend you as I'm now trying to sell it but I need the money for the machine work on my new build..
Two or three questions if I may. Were there any oil galley mods done? Are you coming to the BPG nats? Can you bring it? Thanks, Jim J.
Thanks for the question Jim, As far as the oil mods I honestly dont know that answer. Maybe I can get Eric to chime in on that one. Someone from my area might be going to the BPG nats and deliver it for me but im not to sure. Sometime this summer I might be traveling to Pittsburgh, PA.
Jim, The block has not had any oil mods except the TA dual groove cam bearings. Quite honestly I have never had an oiling issue under 6k rpm with a stock 70 block, I just use the 5/8 pickup tube. If you feel more comfortable, enlarging the oil gallery could be done without taking anything apart. I have seen people do it with the engine in the car. Hope this helps.
Ozzy...put me in line after Jim, subject to it being able to be carted to BPG (i'd be happy to chip in towards fuel) ...thanks
