1968/69 Skylark Rear Ends Identification

Ok guys so I have a question about the rear ends in these cars. I have 2 1968 Buick skylark customs, and 1 1969 Buick skylark custom. I'm thinking about building one of the rear ends but I'm not sure if there is any support for these. Can someone tell me if there is support and were it is? I also wanted to know if the 69 rear end has any advantages to the 68 rear end i.e. stronger or better gears. I'm not sure if the rear ends are 8.5 or 8.2s but they are all stock cars so they have not been messed with. They all have 350s in them and they are all open diffs. I'm planning on putting 3 90s in the rear and an auburn posi unit if possible. Can someone tell me what came factory in these cars for the rear end? Thanks

The 68-70 Buick rears were 8.2, and they were Buick only rears. Most of the Skylarks came with 2.56 or 2.73 gears. There is very little aftermarket support for these rears. There are also 64-67 BOP 8.2 rears. Parts for those rears are widely available, BUT, they are NOT the same as the 68-70 Buick 8.2's. Fabcraft has made a run of 3.42 and 3.64 gears,

There are no Posi units that will drop right in. We have a member here who is our resident expert on rears. His screen name is Monzaz. His website is www.jdrace.com. I believe he has a way to modify a Posi carrier to fit the 68-70 rears. Expect to pay more to build one of these rears.

In 1971-2 Buick Skylarks came with the 8.5 10 bolt with bolt in axles. I would find one of them and build that rear.

.. all true Except if your cowl tag reads "Made in Canada" and then it most likely it has a Chevy 12 bolt.

Post some pics and we'll i.d. them :TU:
