I'm looking for something other than the stock rims for my Riviera and I'm curious as to what I can easily run as far as widths and backspacing. I found a mismatched set of Weld Rodlite wheels in 5x5" pattern with 15x7" on 3.5" backspace and 15x8" on 4.5" backspace, but I am unsure if these will fit my '69 Riviera right?
Re: 1668-1969 Riviera wheels and backspacing? Right at the top of this Forum is a Guide to Rallye Wheels chart, http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=158600&d=1264095216 The Big car wheels were 15 X 6" with 3 3/8" of back spacing. If you increase the wheel width to 7", then to maintain the same centering of the wheel in the well, you would need another 1/2" of back spacing. That puts you at 3 7/8". For an 8" wide wheel, that would be another 1" which would put you at 4 3/8". That's pretty close to what you have. What is on the car now? Do a little measuring.
Re: 1668-1969 Riviera wheels and backspacing? That helps! The stock Rallye wheels are on it now, but were in pretty rough shape when I got the car. As far as the same centering in the wheel well goes, I'm only really concerned with the wheels not scrubbing against anything. If that condition is met, the centering can change and it won't bother me a bit. I'd like to go to a 15x8 minimum in the rear, 15x9 or 15x10 preferred. I wish doing some measuring was easier, I don't get nearly as much done on the car as it is currently stored over an hour away from me (which will hopefully change in the near future!).
Do you want the factory look? I run a custom-made set of Buick Road wheels in 17x8 with 4-1/4" BS on my '71 Riv. See here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?311246-What-size-tires-with-17-quot-rims I have a write-up and drawing I made on the build if you'd want to tackle the job. Lots of work... and money.
Ok, I'm attaching a drawing here. Message me with an email address where I can send you the instructions I wrote up. They're too big to include as an attachment. I had a brief description of the wheel build published in the most recent (July/August 2016) Riview magazine. That's the ROA (Riviera Owners Association) bi-monthly club magazine. They have a link to the detailed write-up within the "Members Only" section of their website (rivowners.org). But, they didn't include the drawing, which you'll find helpful. I had the centers chrome plated by Classic Chrome Plating (www.chromeplating.com) in Santa Ana, CA. They did an excellent job and charged approximately $135 each, less shipping. You will have to be your own source for all other labor.
Hmmm?.. odd. ou: I see the callouts are incorrect on the drawing compared to the Parts List legend. Starting at the top left and going clockwise, callout order should be 2, 1, 1, 3. Thanks Larry!
Is there a way to post the instructions directly, like Larry did with the drawing? It's eight pages with graphics (photos), a total pdf file size of 635 Kb.
What I did was open the pdf, then take a screen shot using the Windows Snipping tool. Then I hosted it on photobucket and posted the link on V8.
Gents, I’m at my end trying to unravel the code that determines the right wheel for a 1968 Buick Riviera. I have the following numbers indicating the wheel is 15” x6” 5 on 5 bolt pattern with 127mm backspacing. I have 6Jx15ETO, 9590601, 9592425, 15596726. Will the numbered steel wheels fit a 1968 Buick Riviera ? Thank you very much.
https://v8buick.com/index.php?attachments/wheelchart-jpg.158600/ The right Rallye Wheel is the 853. That's 15 X 6 with 3 3/8" back spacing (76-77mm). 127mm is 5" of back spacing. I'd say that is too much.
Larry, I’m beside myself with making errors. Very could be brain fog from medicine I take… as the Doc told me. I sent four (4) of the wrong size wheels to a gent in Germany that are wrong as two left shoes . I’ve cost the man a small fortune all along trying to help someone. Thank you. Bob Burnopp
Larry, you are correct the 127mm is too much. I’ve corrected my mistake by sending 4 - 15”x 6” Buick wheels with 5on 5 bolt pattern and back spacing of 3 3/8”. The center bore for correct wheels is 2 3/4” inch. So, the customer is straightened out and content. I’m still doing my homework on Buick Roadwheels. Thank you for your help Turbinator
