1967 Special rear end

Can anyone tell me what gears would have come on a 1967 Special 300-v8 rear end. I am pretty ignorant and have looked around, but maybe I am missing the obvious place to look.

Also how would these gears do on a mostly street driven 455? Any reccomendations? I am planning on using a th-400.

 

Hi jbird 76. I would think it had a 2.?? highway gear. When I replaced mine in my Special with 3.73 geared rearend it made a huge difference in acceleration. If you look on the dr. side tube near or at the bottom you should see 2 letters there. The following letters decode the rear axle ratio.

axle ratio/std axle/Posi axle
...2.56.......LK........LV
...2.78.......LA........LN
...2.93.......OB.......OW
...3.08.......LB........LO
