My first thought was that, in ‘67, there was a GS appearance package available on Specials even with the v6 and maybe this is one. (I remember Keith posting about the option before he melted down and threw himself off of v8). Then I started looking at the pictures and asking WTF!? Twin I Beam four wheel drive with leafs on the rear?! Umm…

Obviously a put together car with some misplaced photos inserted into the ad. Nice lookin' though!
The price is in dreamland!

The GS ornamentation option was installed on model 43307. This shows what it included (not much):

So if the seller’s car might be a ‘GS ornamentation package’ car, but if so it’s missing some of the trim items…

Without paper documents there is no way to prove it is a car that originally had the option. I’ll check the production figures but there were quite a few made.

Interesting. Car looks like a special deluxe with GS badges with the hood off of a GS...

A Special Deluxe is model 43517 and has the 3 port holes and trim that extends down the side of the car. This car is a base Special (model 43307) and has fenders like a Skylark or GS400 with the vertical ornament instead of the rectangular portholes. Those fenders were either added by someone or the car could have been ordered with the W1 GS Ornamentation Package which would have included those fenders with the "fender side ornament."

I looked it up and there were 544 '67 Specials ordered with option W1 GS Ornamentation package. They were all 2-door sedans (model 43307). The W1 option had a window sticker retail price of $42.13.

There is no indicator in the VIN or body trim tag signifying that a car was factory built with the W1 option. So we can't be sure if this is a car with the W1 option unless the seller has paperwork. A W1 car would have a "hoodtop center molding" and no hood scoops. This car currently has hood scoops from a GS340/GS400 which someone added since those were not installed on any 43307 Special.

A model 43307 '67 Special sedan came standard with a V6 but the VIN was the same even if a buyer paid extra for option A3 (300 ci V8) or A7 (340 V8).

Even if it was the ornamentation package on a Special there is so much wrong.

Arm rest in driver door only.
Wrong interior door handle on passenger door.
Overhead light mounted in wrong direction.

Shift indicator shows 2 speed automatic.

I wonder how they got all the 4 wheel drive stuff under there and then got it to sit so low?

The combination of leaf and coil springs at all 4 corners is interesting. Don’t think I’ve seen that before!

Interesting! (It’d be interesting to look at the car in person and see if the front fenders look like originals. Hood and decklid, too).
Also…Would a buyer have been able to order a Special with 340-4, GS ornament package and add steeper gears and been cheaper than a GS340 (and had choice of color?)

Interesting idea Patrick. I just looked into it and found this:

A base model GS340 was $2,845 and included the 340-4 high performance engine, a 3-speed manual (column shift) transmission, and a 3.23 non-positraction rearend.

You could order a 340-4 high performance engine in a base model Special (model 43307) and it would have a 3-speed manual (column shift) but the order form does not show a way to order the performance axle (3.23) without positive traction. Well, to add the 3.23 gear you have to get positive traction (add $42.13 G1 Performance Axle with Positive Traction Differential (3.23 ratio)) but it has a note that says "(Available only w/ v8 engine and automatic transmission)."

But if we add an automatic transmission and positive traction to a GS340 then we can build a mechanically similar base model Special to compare the price. The only performance option that the GS340 could have that couldn't be ordered on a base model Special was the optional rear sway bar. The rear sway bar was part of the "Sport Pac Option" - H4 Rallye Road Control Package for $126.38 (included a heavy duty rear stabilizer bar, heavy duty springs and shocks, and 15-to-1 power steering).

    $2,845 GS340 base price
    $205.24 B1 Super turbine Transmission
$42.13 G4 Positive Traction Differential (3.23 ratio was already standard with the GS340)
$3,092.37 Total (does not include destination charges)

$2,411 Special (model 43307) base price
$101.11 A7 340-4 high performance engine (same engine as the GS340)
    $205.24 B1 Super turbine Transmission
$42.13 G1 Performance Axle with Positive Traction Differential 3.23 ratio (Available only w/ v8 engine and automatic transmission) (Yes, same exact cost as option G4 and same as the W1 option)
    $42.13 W1 GS Ornamentation Package
$2,801.61 Total (does not include destination charges)

So the same performance for $290.76 less and a wider choice of paint color. The car would just have plain wheels unless someone paid extra for the V1 Deluxe Wheel Covers ($16.85) or V2 Chrome Plated Wheels ($90.58).

The GS340 would have included a few things as standard equipment that would not be on the Special that we optioned above but none affected the performance (red hood scoops, red rally wheels, red rally stripes, chrome air cleaner, deluxe steering wheel, many a few other items).

I wish I could too, lol! The car was in UT. A friend of mine here in WA bought it, not sure if he still has it or not, he has quite a few cars (including many Buicks). It was a pretty original car, I think the parents were the original owners, or at least long time owners. IIRC it wasn't running at the time of sale, but my friend got it running and it ran great.

Love the trailer hitch and white rocker moldings...Must be that special two tone paint that changes color when you look at it differently :)

Someone must have been sleeping when uploading the pics SMH

    Chevy door panels maybe?
    Definitely not 67 buick panels.
Note the use of a bigblock shroud on a
    Small block engine.
    Why the silver firewall?

Gary i enjoyed your detailed write up.
Its good to have information like that documented here on the site
