1967 Buick Purchase Order/Cowl Tag Decoding

    Below is a scan of the original purchase order that came with my 1967 GS400 convertible
    Scan 6.jpg
    Options as shown on the purchase order:
    Reclining Strato buckets
    Headrests
    Deluxe seat belts
    Retractable seat belts
    California smog device
    Full console with tachometer
    Positraction
    Air conditioning
    Tinted glass
    Power brakes
    Power steering
    AM/FM radio
    Automatic transmission
    Redline tires

    A couple of things have gone missing or have been changed over the years. The California smog control device is nowhere to be found. It looks like the car came with 14 inch wheels and it now has 15 inch wheels (which I am OK with by the way). The car was originally painted Aquamarine Iridescent but is now some kind of dark blue. A picture of the cowl tag is below.
    Cowltag.jpg
    Car was built on the 4th week of September 1966 - about 3 weeks after it was ordered in California for pickup in Detroit.

    The trim codes from the cowl tag are as follows:

    198-R
    E 2EZG
    5KY &

    According to Team Buick website the options for a 67 GS400 are below:
    67options_gs400.jpg
    Can anyone makes sense of the trim codes shown on the cowl tag? I can't make heads or tails of them and they don't seem to directly correspond to the options shown on the purchase order. Any help would be appreciated.

    That's a nicely optioned '67 you got there! Was that car on eBay a while back?

    E 2EZG
    5KY &

    1st group
    E Soft-ray tinted glass (all windows)

    2 =2nd option group
    E = A/C
    Z = 3-spd auto transmission
    G = Console

    5 = 5th option group
    K = door edge guards
    Y = Deluxe seat belts

    If you decide to try to find all the correct parts to reinstall the smog control device (A.I.R. as many people call it) I have a correct power steering bracket that also has the extra provision for the smog pump. If yours is missing and if you decide to track down all the stuff, I'd be happy to sell it. Unfortunately that's the only part I have for a the '67 smog setup.

    Thanks for the info! Any idea what the 198-R means? Yes the car was on ebay about a year ago. It looks like my power steering bracket has some extra, unused holes so that must be where the A.I.R. pump was mounted. I am not sure if I want to reinstall the octopus-looking A.I.R lines or not, even if I can find them. The exhaust manifolds must have been swapped out as well because they don't have any ports for the A.I.R. lines.

    The A.I.R system on the '67 Buick didn't tap into the exhaust manifolds like a Chevy. Buick used a single connection point on the cylinder head above the 2 center exhaust ports, so it was the cylinder heads that were different (they even have a different casting #) not the exhaust manifolds. Many '67s that didn't have the A.I.R. system still got the A.I.R. heads but they just were not drilled for the A.I.R. system. When I get onto my laptop later I'll post photos for you.

    Your power steering bracket is correct if it has an extra unused bolt hole. That would be the lower mounting pivot point for the air pump.
