So I thought I read that I could use a non bop 8.2 cover on a bop 8.2 but not the other way around is that true? I need a cover for my 67 rear with a super thick flange but I don't need one with the load bolts. The only one I have found that are just cast aluminum are for the Chevy 8.2/8.5. If I have to buy ta performance one I will but I thought I would ask. Thanks Adam

Yep, Unless you want to oblong the holes... But that will pretty much mess the cover up for any resale.
The 8.5 corp is the same as the 8.2 Chevy bolt pattern.
BUT you have to watch the 8.5 scalloped cover can not be used on a Chevy 8.2 as there are oil return holes to the axle shaft bearings.
That was the reason for the rear cover oiling trough in the Chevy covers to oil the c-clip axle shaft bearing and bypass the carrier bearing restriction.
I guess it worked BUT as you can see no cover is like that anymore so they must have deemed it not so necessary...BUT the bypass holes are still there in the casting.

SO the Corp 8.5 scalloped cover does not COVER those holes and you will have a leak...obviously but you you can use a round cover where a scalloped corp 8.5 cover was.
Hope that helps you understand where you likely got your information.
