Anyone see this car upclose and personal....at Mecum Kansas City, SOLD for $15,750K. Staggered at $12K for the longest time, we (Buick`s) get no RESPECT :af: The car looked great on TV. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=KC0312-123569&entryRow=159&lottype=
If I'd have known it was going to go that cheap I would have bought it. It does look good, and it's a sharp body-style. Oh well, that's unfortunately typical for a Buick; - under appreciated but dependable. For some reason full sized 66 Buicks are revoltingly cheap. I just saw a lovely 66 Electra convertible that looked pretty sharp go through an auction cycle on eBay as a "no sale" with a "buy it now" price of just over $9K; that doesn't bode well when I go to sell mine later this spring.
Well, - really hard to say unless you see it in person. Definitely a nice example. What may have held it back is in the pics the paint job looks poor and most of the time pics look better than real life so I'd have to assume its worse than the pics. If its really 32k and rust free the buyer did well.
That Riv had the mileage going for it, otherwise thats price was about right for a non GS bucket seat car. This 65 Impala was a deal for someone, big block, 4 speed A/C car. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=KC0312-123085&entryRow=74&lottype=
It sure looks pretty decent, for that price, and the paint may be nothing more than what a good buffing job wouldn't cure! I noticed it was also missing the proper '66 ribbed style, cone shaped centre caps - those look like '65s, or 'bastardized' '71s and up flat style centre caps. :TU:
His power steering cap should be red, too! When I detailed my engine compartment I had a full color factory brochure given to me by Erik! I like that color (on the sold one); I don't think I have ever seen one in person.
The engine in the `66 brochure was "painted up" for the photos. The factory caps are either black or natural color, cant remember which, but definitely not red. Tom Mooney
