I have a 1965 skylark with tilt column and I'm having some issues with the directional signals. When I tilt the wheel is the signal switch assembly mounted on the middle of the column suppose to move as well with the direction of wheel tilt?

It appears the switch is mounted on a slide with a spring but mine does not move with the tilt of the wheel. I can manually move switch in the slide and once I do that the directional signals work.

So the ultimate question is if the switch assembly is suppose to move is it suppose to move with the outer jacket of the cable assembly that moves the switch lever to operate the signal, and if the outer cable jacket doesn't move the switch assembly what could be the cause? (Stretched cable?)

I did try following the manual and setting the switch assembly in the forward position having the switch lever in the middle along with the wheel tilted in the down direction and tried taking the slack out of the cable assembly by loosing the two bolts and sliding switch assembly but that still did not work.

Normally the cable breaks at the metal sleeve.
You need to look closely, especially at the bottom of the cable.

I looked at both ends and I do not see any breaks. Is it accurate that the cable moves the switch assembly?

    YES
Operate the switch while watching the cable, especially at the bottom end.
