1965 Olds vs Buick Parts

Found a nice 1965 Olds 88 w/ 425 2bbl sitting in a local rural yard. Engine compartment is totally complete and the engine looks like it would fire right up with some fresh gas, keys even in the ignition. Power steering pump belts intact and brake booster both nice and clean too. I would think the power steering unit to be interchangable with Buick, look the same? Was thinking about pulling the pump and booster, not sure they would be usable cores or used unit I could interchange? Might even be good as they are as the car is complete and clean under the hood. No evidence of leak at the pump or pressure hose area. I know there are differences in boosters even between 1965 and 1966 but I never cross referenced Olds to Buick.

It should be similar, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd make sure all the parts come from the same supplier and the same body family. Full-size to full-size, Saginaw to Saginaw, Bendix to Bendix. They did change a lot starting in 1967, but I think the 65-66 stuff was more or less the same across all of the body families.

It would be the best if you came across someone with a Hollender Interchange Catalog from the late 60s/early 70s, that would be the definitive answer.

A lot of the A Body stuff interchanges as far as mechanical things. Is that a Buick 425 in the engine Bay? If it is I'd yank it, even if it's a Two Barrel. Did they even make a 425 Duece?

No, that 425 would be a pure Olds "rocket" engine, and has nothing in common with the Buick "nailhead" 425. Buick 425 was never made with a 2 bbl.

That's correct, it's an Olds Rocket 425 with a 2 bbl carb. Standard stuff in a 1965 Olds Delts 88. If it were a 425 Buick it would have already been in my garage!

The 2 bbl Olds 425 is a low compression engine. I have a buddy with one in his '65 Delta 88. My '64 Wildcat with similar miles and m/l stock 401 will leave it behind :3gears:
