Can you get a close up picture of the cowl tag?

It pushes 4 out of 5 buttons. If it were a 4 speed I'd be all over it.

I would think 23-25K is all the money and then some. The wood wheel looks OK and the GS emblem on the fan shroud are the only two things I can find wrong with the car. Pretty well loaded for a 65. Tom

I feel like I've seen it for sell before with same pics . I've never seen this site before made me wonder .
Emailed owner will see what I want to built and sell my 65 GS frame off hardtop and 64 skylark convertible .
Build one way I want and be done . To be honest fully loaded Skylark is prettier car but I gotta have a floor shift

I have a variation of that wheel on mine and I've always thought it looked great on the car. It's a `65 Riviera wheel but mine doesn't have the horn bars.

Production date on cowl tag is 12/64. "65 Gran Sport production did not start until January of '65.

Bill, I really like the way that wheel looks in your car! Actually the whole car looks great!

I also like the wheel in the car listed. Nice touch with the "bird" on the center emblem to go with centers on the wheels.

Curious as I don't know a lot about '65's, but is the 12/64 referring to when the body was built @ Fisher and if so, couldn't the car have been assembled in January with a December body, especially if there was a Christmas shut down? Maybe this was one of the 1st Gran Sports, or at least Gran Sport convertibles made.

  15. if this were the case it would have came with the smaller early grill emblem. although that could have been replaced at some point

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

Cowl tag date is when the body is completed by Fisher , not when it was put into production by the plant, nor the "roll off" date.

Now, take this with a grain of salt, as it was what I recollect from reading/research in the libraries 40 years ago.

The "cowl tag" is created and the "body" is begun, based on the "build sheet" and that date might be latere as the "build sheet" is "finalized" and tied to the body for finalizing on the line.

And I was in the USAF at the time, and was impressed with "production" , so it was a thing that got my attention and I looked into many different production systems, from all the aircraft manufacturers (and having most of my mother's side of the family in the aviation manufacturing of Wichita, and my father's side of drag racing and equipment manufacturing), so all of that became an obsession long ago.

Found a lot of the processes from the days before WWII became the standards that were used during, and then followed after.

Pretty neat when you look at it "as it evolved".

Anyway, it is possible that this car is legit. Would be nice to know if there is a "build sheet", "broadcast card", or anything surviving that would show provenance.

It wasn't introduced until Dec 29th of 65 so it couldn't have been built a year before in Dec of 64.

what week is it built? 12/64 is kind of a generic statement..so ...

12C or 12D or 12E is close enough...thats 3rd or 4th or 5th week of december...and that year Dec did have 5 weeks...and christmas was on a tuesday...so it could kill the weeks production and delay a car....so..it could technically work..and should be a small emblem car if its real..

..i think theres some numbers transposed in some of these posts..if i read it right..

december 29th of 65 is a 66 model year..since august or sept is the known break in model years..

So the bodies would've been built in Dec. '64 in order to assemble cars built after Dec. 29th intro. date.
I wasn't sure if in 65 whether they used the letter for the week since the post just said 12/64. The week would definitely be vital info.
