1965 Electra Coupe....REALLY BAD ROOF...

UNFORTUNATELY I did not have my camera for pictures....I have the chance to buy a 65 Electra it has the pw/pl/tilt and the engine runs EXCELLENT, the big issue is the damn roof it had a vinyl top on it and it is ROACHED!! the sides are bad (have not pulled the rest of the vinyl but you can pretty much push through it to the inside of the car the top of the roof has rust and you can rub away the rust to find some pinholes as well as holes the size of a pencil eraser.

The rust on the roof worries me due to the limited body skills I have and I couldn't see down the insides of the inner panels in the back seat to see if more damage was waiting. The guy was asking $1000 obo and looking at teh car it with the amount of work needed to repair the roof (IF it is repairable) I would be thinking like $600, the interior is OK nothing major and surprisingly no rust on the floor boards and no where else for that matter.

Would this car be worth buying and trying to bring it back from the dead?

Without at least seeing photos of the rest of the car, it's hard for anyone to give good advice.

One thing to consider though, is that the kind of roof repair you're describing usually means finding a donor car for a roof transplant, which is a pretty labor intensive job (expensive). So factor into the purchase of this project the likelihood of finding another '65 Electra coupe near you that will provide a roof...probably not good!

There are two in my area for sale right now besides the one in question, butbthe cost to replace roofs scare me...... I think I will pass on this one.

You could buy it and cut it down to make it a convertible...

66 Electra had the same roofline but a different interior. So if you decided to proceed with the donor car idea there's another alternative.

Unfortunately, those cars will never be worth the cost of a serious restoration though, even though they are IMHO fantastic cars.
