I am completely new to buicks and from what I've heard and seen it seems like a cheap build to drop a small block chevy into my 65 skylark. My dad has a sbc motor he will give me which is another reason im going this route. I just wanna know anything I should about the swap please. My car has a 300 in it currently. Im in no hurry I just wanna know will the sbc drop right in or what mods are needed? Im on a budget. Also do I need to Change to a th350? If so what mods need to be done for that? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Just pretend it's a Chevelle and go with Chevelle frame stands and Chevelle type rubber mounts. You can also use any transmission that a Chevelle would have or could have used. It certainly isn't rocket science..... or rocket surgery.

Thanks. Ya I didn't think it'd be all that hard but some of these threads guys say you gotta change everything

Since you phrased the transmission question as an "also", just remember that you'll def. need a Chevrolet transmission if you drop in the Chevrolet 350 engine, the Buick bellhousing bolt pattern is completely different. Flex plates and torque converters different Chevy vs. Buick.

There is an adapter for the BOP to Chevy bell housing differences. You can also drill the Chevy flywheel for the Buick converter, but I suspect that the hub on the converter may not fit the Chevy crank.

You will also have to run the fuel pump suction hose across the frame, since the fuel pump is in the opposite side. Of course, the exhaust will need to be reworked. I went with headers and the FlowMaster exhaust system all the way to the bumper. I also had to change the driveshaft, since I put in a 700 R4.
