I sent for pictures. If it's a factory dual quad, it's got to be a 425 riviera. I just about bought a 65 Grans Sport 4 speed dual quad from that area last summer for $6500. Wish I would have bought that car.
But if it's a 4 speed, it ain't a Riviera! I few decades ago, I went to see a pair of 71 Stage 1's :eek2: that were advertised in the paper. When I got there, I was flaggergasted to see a pair of Rivieras!ou: Oh well, it was a nice day for drive anyway.
This same guy also has a '71 GS convertible (unrestored, no engine) and a '72 Skylark convertible parts car. I've got dibs on them right now . . . :bla:
David, if it's the same one that you saw, did you also see the '71 and '72? I've got a few photos of them, but they don't show a whole lot.
It is the same car. It's got a non numbers engine and transmission, but he has the right transmission in the garage also. It's a Buick dual quad manifold also. Not sure what the deal was because I went up there to look at the car and he had it out for a drive.... hmmm..... Then when we went for a test drive he drove it and never offered to let me drive it. I wasn't too sure of what the deal was. I was trying to decide, but pretty sure I was interested in the car and he contacted me and said it was no longer available. I know that his wife kinda wanted to fix the car up. Good woman! I did take a quick look at the hard top that he had and it looked like a parts car that I think (if I remember right) had some nice parts like grill, trim, might have had a GS hood. Don't remember for sure. He had a convertible in the garage and it was pretty torn apart. I think it was pretty solid, but like I said I didn't pay much attention to the "modern" cars. Over all, the car was a pretty good car. Ratty, especially the interior. Wish I would have bought it though. Instead I've got a 64 and a 72 that is going to be delivered in the next few days! I've got a few other pictures from the first time he had it for sale also.
The dual quad was NOT a option from the factory. It was however offered as a over the counter dealer install. The motor should be a LR code thats what the Gran Sports came with if this car is # matching.
Well, I'm gonna pass on the '71 GS convertible. I just don't have the time and money for what it deserves. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=191866
Yep, but it isn't a matching car. Engine and transmission are both transplants. He has the right transmission, but not in the car so you could probably assume it needs rebuilt. To tell you the truth, non matching was part of the appeal to me. I could never modify a numbers matching 65 Gran Sport. This car was original enough to show well (with a lot of work), but was already bastardized with the wrong engine and transmission. If a guy wanted to upgrade the suspension, add 24 cubic inches, paint it a non original color or what ever, it's a no harm no foul since it can never be 100 percent original again.
Non matching numbers? Who Cares? :eek2: Those 2 carbs are the coolest!!!!!!:TU: Looks like a solid specimen.:3gears: Tell us Dave, what did you buy now?:Brow:
Well...... There was that free 350 that I picked up, but I didn't have any thing to put it in so.... I have a 72 Skylark that's being dropped off tonight. The guy is bringing it from Walla Walla Washington which is about 375 miles away. In theory, the body is good. It had a little bend in the passenger rear quarter and a little to each front fender but the guy has a body shop and fixed those already. I've got a lot of sanding to do, got to put an engine in it, and see what to do about the interior. The inside is a little rough, but I hope to be able to clean it up and not spend a lot on that part. Guy offers a free engine, I find what I hope is a good deal on a 72 that needs an engine, the guy just happens to need to come all the way out here to pick up something. Just sounded like it was meant to be. It would be a good driver but I will probably mess around with it, maybe paint it myself and sell it to fund more of the 64. I think that I love car buying too much! Wish I could pick up this 4 speed dual quad 65 though!
