Well, I don't know if this is the beet place to put this post, but it's close enough. I spotted a '64 convertible cruisin' through town at lunch today. I was able to pull up along side it at a light and spoke with the two guys that were in it. They said it had just been "fully restored." I could see it had a newer looking paint job on it, though I could tell they had done it themselves. The color was an aqua green with a ton of metal flake and the top was made out of a velvet-like material . . . not my cup of tea, but it was a decent car otherwise. I asked what it had under the hood and the reply was an enthusiastic "327 out of a Corvette!" I mentioned that I too had a Skylark and then the light turned green. The driver jumped it off the line to show off the "power", so I decided to answer back with my F-150 (supercharged 5.4 and studded snow tires). He tried to catch up, but quickly realized his efforts were futile.

I can't wait to meet up with him in my Skylark. : )

That wont even be right!!! At least maybe you'll plant the seed in his mind to put some Buick power back in there though...

Nice kill, but what most of these people don't understand is that there were very few engines installed in Corvettes that weren't identical versions of simple passenger car engines. Chances are it was just a 250 or 300hp, but they think just because it came out of a Corvette it's supposed to some high horsepower engine. Another reality is that there were very few 327 powered Corvettes that were actually fast back then. Add another 600lbs, or more of car and bingo, you have a slug without enough torque to get it moving. And while I'm on a roll, those supercharged 5.4 Ford truck were no slouches. I have a friend with one and the truck is quite impressive for a truck.

There appeared to be a little smoke coming from his tailpipes and it didn't sound real mean, so it probably wasn't running at it's best - I expected it to be quicker than it was. Also, I sort of got the impression that these two guys could have bought any old SBC without checking the numbers on it to see if it really was a 327 or even something from a Corvette. I'm sure an LT1 or LS1 would have put on a better show.

My truck is a bit of a sleeper. It's the same body style as a Lightning, but is an XLT. It did come with the 5.4, however, and I add the supercharger (about 9psi) and installed 4.10s. The exhaust has a cat-back system, but it's fairly quiet. I run some SVT wheels in the summer (it actually handles pretty dang good), but use the standard wheels with snow tires in the winter. It's a good daily driver / beater.

Anyway, it was cool to see another Buick in my home town. Maybe I'll get a chance to change his mind about Buick power sometime.

Awww, you're just mean. Those poor guys are prolly cryin' in their Grape Nehis about that truck that creamed 'em. And it ain't restored if it has a Corvette motor, anyhoo.

Don't forget the guys who say they got a 350 from a truck to put into their car because trucks have more torque for pulling.
