So I bought a broke down 64 Riviera from a friend of mine when I noticed it had the complete intact factory 2x4 setup. The riviera is a black on black car and is in decent shape other than a Piston disappeared...Pulled the head and there was nothing in there? Haven't seen that before. I started nosing around and looking at the numbers on the block and firewall and I noticed the "KX" on the block which I believe denotes it was a 425 with 2x4, right? My question is, what exactly do all the codes mean on the firewall badge?: 10E Style 64-4747 FB 4406 Body Trim 608 AA* Paint ACC X I am mainly interested in the "Acc X". Was that to tell the builders in Flint Michigan, the 2x4 needed to be on this car? Did that mean it would also have the posi rear end, or do I need to check the rear end for a stamp code? Where is that code? Did "Acc X" mean anything else? How many were built that year? I believe 64 with the 2x4 were the precursor to the GranSport. Is this correct? Also, trim is listed as 608, is that the code for black? Paint is AA*, which I am assuming is black because I can't find a different color on the car anywhere in the jams. I think the other numbers "10 E" and "Style..." refer to when it was built month and week, which model, as well as sequence within the total production. Can anyone help shed some light on exactly what I have here? Thanks.ou:
the kx is a 64 2-4 engine the motors vin should be on the right front of the engine it should match the cars vin. scott they didnt denote the engine on the trim tag in 64
Could you get the 2 x 4 option on a vehicle equipped with a 401? I thought that was only available on the 425? What about the "Acc X" on the firewall. Do you know what that referred to as far as an option package?
10E is a date code...I forget exactly how they work...10th day of May? May is month 5, E is 5th letter. Trim 608 is black vinyl A is Regal Black paint. I don't have anything on the options / accessory codes though.
Thanks for the reply. That is very helpful. Good to verify it is indeed a black on black car. I am still hoping someone can shed some light on the "Acc X", and what exactly that option meant?o No:
Brody: You will find this link very interesting... http://rivowners.org/features/evolution/evpt64.html ...it should help to answer more of your questions regarding production, etc. The 401 was not available on Riviera's in '64, they all came with the 425. Interestingly, in '65 you could get either a 401 or 425. Since you "broke down" and bought a Riviera, my best advice for you is to join the ROA (Riviera Owners Association). There is a wealth of information there as well as technical advisors available to help you. ROA publishes a bi-monthly magazine called "The Riview" which is worth the price of membership alone. Just go to the ROA web site for more details... http://www.rivowners.org/ As an aside, I am also interested in the KX code Riviera's as I own 2 of them myself. I'm considering putting together a registry of these cars, to attempt to document how many may be left. Anyone who owns or knows anyone with one of these cars please PM me with your contact information - thanks!
