Is this real? I've looked at it but the old gal wants more than I've got right now and it's just sitting there goin to hell out in the street!! I looked at it last summer and drove by it again the other day and this baby is still there.
My Dad had a '65 Electra 225 "C", 4 door sedan that came from the factory with 425, dual quads, aluminum valve covers and dual exhaust. I think other then AC it did not have many other options. It ended up getting parted out to build his '64 Riviera. Ken
Could be a real sleeper if that's something you're interested in. FYI they wallow and in general, you aim them. Had a 64 Electra conv barely fit in the garage. Couch for a back seat. Miss those days.
There was a guy that posted a lot here Poods that bought one for the engine, the car was purchsed by Matt M. in Kansas but may have never been picked up from Tom K... sad demise for a super Wildcat Electra 4-door. I've got the 65 Electra production ##s - I was interested basically in how many 65 Super Wildcat Electras were produced. I think Robert "dualqwad" had an Electra equipped that way as well. Miss those days for sure!
Yes, this was a dealer installed option early in the 1966 model year and a factory installed option late in the model year.
I haven't heard of any either, which is why I asked. I wasn't even aware they'd shoved that set up in a 65 or a 64. I wonder who would have ordered it, it doesn't sound like something a 50-something exec would have ordered for his grocery-getter, but the same 50-something guy suffering a mid-life crisis would have ordered it for his Wildcat or Riviera. How bad is the dual-quad set up on gas? If it is proven to have been installed into 66 Electras, then I'll accumulate the bits and install it. It'd be pretty cool to have a screamer for an Electra...:idea2:
I switched my 64 from a single to the factory dual 4 set up years ago. Didn't notice much difference in fuel economy if you kept your foot out of the carbs, kinda hard to do. Lot's of little parts are different if that matters. Find a donor car if possible if you complete authenticity. 64 was a stand alone set up, 65/66 shared carbs and kick down set up. Intakes are different too, bosses for kick down are different. Buick's were know as bankers hot rods. If you didn't want to own a Caddy or Lincoln because to was too showy for your profession, Buicks were nice enough bit not too showy. Pretty sure there is a 64 Elec conv up in the NE US with a factory 2x4 set up for sale currently around $15k so there were a few built that way.
Well, it's definitely tempting. My foray with the proper Rochester Quadrajet and manifold hasn't worked out too well, so this might be worth a look. Were they only installed on 425 or were they available for 401 as well? I guess the next step would be to figure what it looked like in 1966. As far as I can recollect, only Riviera GS and Wildcat GS used them, and I've never seen a set here in Canada. 64 Electra convert with 425 and dual quads; - yeah, that would have been some fun...
