1960 steering bolt issue ....

I'm pulling apart my power steering since it leaks.

I am in France and have a simple set of 6 point sockets in inches.
Unfortunately I am not sure how to take this bolt off (with a 13mm socket it started ripping the points).
Obviously it has 12 points to it and not 6. I need to buy a 12 pt socket but cant figure out the size... Seems smaller than 1/2 inch... Would anyone know by experience ?

I tried a 6 point 1/2" and its too big.. I tried a 6 point 7/16" and it seems too small...
I am lost ... What do I need to buy ?

Tom thanks for you help. I realize it was a very amateurish question... but then I am a true amateur... a hard worker and good learner though so in a few years hopefully I will be wiser thanks to people like you and all the great sharing of this board.
    Thanks
