1956 Riviera Coupe in San Antonio-Cheap?

Discussion in 'Cars and Parts For Sale Leads' started by Joe B, Mar 8, 2010.

This was in the weekend paper:

    '56 Riviera Coupe 2dr, 335 nailhead, auto. $1500 obo. (210) 273-2612

I called the number and spoke with "Anthony" who said the car does not currently run due to needing a water pump. He said that except for that it would run. Said the car is complete (whatever that means), that it has a little rust but could be fiberglassed (ouch!) or otherwise repaired. He said it is currently in primer and the price is flexible. I'd offer to go look at it but I don't know how much help it would be as I know absolutely nothing about these cars. It sounds like a cheap price to me, though, even for a parts car.

Primer covers bodywork. Dont forget your talking about a 54 year old car. I would bring a magnet and find out how much bodywork is on the car already. If you try to part it out, your going to want solid body panels.
Second - If I had a car that needed a water pump to run AND I was looking to sell it, I would put the water pump on.
It is a lot easier to sell a running project than it is to sell a non running project/parts car. And lastly, just because he says it will run with a new waterpump, doesnt mean the engine is in good condition.
Im not implying the seller is being dishonest, Im just suggesting you be extra careful if you buy a car "you know absolutely nothing about".

I agree with everything that you said. I was not looking at this car for myself, I was just putting it out there for anyone who might be interested. Still, $1500 obo seems pretty cheap, even for a parts car, provided it really is as complete as he says.

I know absolutly nothing about those cars either. :Brow:

But, if you could come up with pictures it might spark some interest in some.
You know how we love pictures around here.
