I have a 454 available w/ trans and I was thinking about ripping the 264 ci out and putting in the 454 ci w/ trans. Does anyone have any suggestions/thoughts or ideas that could help me?

I've seen it done on a '58. It looked terrible!!! Not because it's a chebby in a Buick but because it doesn't fit very well. It will have to sit in the engine compartment much too high & a lot of fab would need to be done as far as mounts, pulley's & many miss things you aren't thinking about right now.
    Just my thoughts.

imo keep the buick the way it is now. these big cars are made for cruisin, not beating on :3gears:

Well I wanted to keep it orignal but I have to pull the engine to rebuild it and the kits ive seen so far for that engine are going for about a 1000 or more and I have that complete 454 w/ trans available for 200 dollars. I know in the long run it would end up costing more to put the 454 in there but I figured if im going threw all that trouble might as well put it in?

Where are you located? Maybe someone on here can hook you up with a good deal on a Buick engine.

If that 454 runs that good, you shouldn't have any problem selling it to the chevy crowd. Post it on www.racingjunk.com or elsewhere and you'll have buyers in no time.

Just my opinion, but a 55 Buick is way too cool to 'settle' for a BBC. A 401 or 425 Nailhead would look so much better. Keep it old school!!:beers2:

just be sure your ready for the swap, including new rear end , custom driveshaft, custom mounts (engine and tranny), different suspension to handle the weight, better brakes. its more exspensive and unless your a great welder/have access to lift etc its gonna cost alot on labor

Put a smallblock in 'er, or as suggested-maybe a 401 would be nice for a hotrod engine. They are good for torque, and as for a smallblock, I mean a Buick 350 would be nice for that kind of car. Get it built up and it'll run with the big dawgs.

If you put in a 350, you're still swapping the entire drivetrain out.

Sink the $$$ into the 264. The car will be worth more because of it, and it will be cheaper in the long run. :Smarty:

BUT...it would be a nice fit, just as cheap, if not cheaper to rebuild(heck, for 1,000 dollars, if you rebuild the Buick 350 yourself(excluding the machine work needed, if you can find a cheap and reliable shop to do all the machining/spec. necessary), you can throw in some mild performance goodies while you're at it, for that price! And, if you're going to go chevy, you don't have to go as big as the 454. A 350 SBC will do anything you want it to almost for cheaper than most any other kind of engine out there, since it's the most popular and most used for many performance applications. Just some thoughts. The 264 is probably a nice engine, if you are willing to get it rebuilt, it will make for a nice cruiser and probably will remain dependable for you. If you're going for performance, then i'd say a small block or even a big block would be a good choice, most any V8 is a good choice, it's just that there are some better than others, and that's what you need to know right there! Research some of these old V8's up, think on what you want and need, or so desire, and then make the decision on what kind of engine you really want. Take your time and make some wise decisions. You can't go wrong, really, with whatever your decision is, as it's your car! I wish you luck! Take care!:beer
