posi i think the the one under my 69 GS is posi. if your interested, i'll check it and find out just what it is.
posi sorry for the delay, computer was down for a couple days.needed new video card. i was under my GS yesterday and couldn't find any #'s. i'am looking on the right side of the rear-end and towards the front of the car. took a wire brush under with me and still could not bring out any #'s. any suggestions?
The numbers are usually facing down on the right side of the car between the housing and the spring holder. Look for 2 letters. Go here and scroll down to the rear axle charts to find out what you have. Good Luck
i don't know much, i'm new on the block. but i have a posi axle out of a 68-70 elcamino, somewere around that year, i don't remember is it useful to anyone.
posi for the el camino I would be interested in that posi if it is an 8.2 chevy c-clip typ posi. Let me know. Jim mitschke454@earthlink.net Thanks :3gears:
Steve, Your best solution is to get the 71 Skylark 8.5" rear from the Tampa yard and then get a corporate 8.5" posi unit. Much cheaper and much easier. You can find the 8.5" posi units in many GM cars/trucks/vans from 71-89.
Only A-bodies interchange: El Camino, GMC Sprint, 70-2 Monte Carlo, 69-72 Grand Prix, Skylark, Chevelle, Lemans, Cutlass
Here is a listing for the corporate 8.5" rear posi unit on Ebay, buy it now for $160 is a fair price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7946242836&category=33731
