For our 70 GSX stage one 4 speed resto we need a 55 amp alternator assembly #1100774 dated coded within a couple of months of the second week of April, 1970 --the build date for our car. If it is not included with an alternator, we need the double groove alternator pulley # 1961408.
I have two of these alternators but am having trouble finding any numbers on them. Where should they be marked?
The ones I have seen have the amp rating on the perimeter of the case. Right after that should be the numbers and letters that define the date code.
Jim, I have two alternators one from a 70 Skylark built in 02/70. But i cannot Identify the part number. The other is from a 70 GS but it was built 11/69 both are open face style alt. If you can tell me exactly where to look I may be able to help or at least try.
Phil On the perimeter of the case the stamp says "55 amps " then a series of numbers and letters 0= 70 C= March ##= day of the month etc. [Edit I thought the date was also on the case but from what Duane posted below it may just be the face of the pulley which for even a non AC GSX is the two groove GM part # 1961408]
Jim, I'm not saying I have the right one,but are you looking for a correct coded one even if it needs rebuilt? Are you trying to get the code only or are you wanting a new or restored unit?I have multiple ones and will look at what I have to see if I can help. Also, where would te dbbl pulley be stamped at? Pat
Pat, Jim is looking for a correct part number and date coded alt that could be rebuilt. The numbers on the pulley are stamped on the outer face. Duane
Jim, I hope this photo will help you locate one. This is the one from my 70 stage 1 4-speed car, so it is not for sale. Scott 1100774 55A 9M22 12VNEG
Jim, Don't know if you are interested but Ihave one with the following info 1100774 55A 7J8 0r B (HARD TO TELL) 12V NEG THIS ALT IS LOCKED UP AND REALLY NO USE TO ME.IF INTERESTED OR IT WILL HELP YOU OUT,I'LL MAKE A REASONABLE DEAL.I STILL HAVE A COUPLE MORE TO LOOK AT AND WILL LET YOU KNOW IF i HAVE ANY OTHERS. Pat
No Pat I think the date code must be a "0" not a "7", and he wants the letter "C", maybe a "B" to follow... :Smarty: Ok, I'll look at my old one in the garage. I think it is a rebuilt unit from the early 80's, probably a 1:1000 shot of pot luck... o No:
What Jim is looking for is a 1100774 55 amp alternator that reads 0 C 15 thru 0 C 31 with a double pulley. Any 70 455 with AC and/or Heavy duty cooling would have come with one. He is just looking for one with the correct date to rebuild. Duane
Thank you Pat for the look. Duane I found one on a 70 Buick Boat in a yard today which built in I think June on the cowl tag: 9H13 1100774 55A 1961408 on the pulley
