I have 15x10's with 5.625" backspacing. You'd really be pushing the envelope there. You would have to have 6" backspacing to center in the wheelwell.
an article in an issue of car craft magazine states that on the GM A-body platform it is possible to stuff a 17 x 11 rim with 5.5-inch backspacing in the rear using a 315/35R17 tire. they claim that this can be done with no body or frame mods but i can't vouch for that. i would roll the lips. keep in mind they are saying that this is the BIGGEST rim/tire combo you can fit with no mods. if you decide to go with this rim width, let me know how it turns out. i was planning on a similar width. (either 17x11 or 18x10) thanks and good luck
No I have not tried to put 11 on the car yet. Might be a couple years before I go ahead with it. Mark
Just maybe the gys at Chebbie Craft tried the rims on the Chevelle ? The unique rear quarter shape of the Skylark may be a hinderence . Just a thought I had 5.5 back spacing with slicks and they cleared with 10.5 tires any more then I could see a rubbing problem on cornering .
I believe that the tire is supposed to always be wider than the rim, that's the tire's section width. Just think back if you ever saw a Honda with 14x6 wheels and tires that were too small to really fit. STUPID!!
