Lost in all the Englishtown talk is the story of some guy named Ken V who ran an incredible 1.68 @ 119 on Saturday. of course, he was quickly yanked out of the Factory Stock class and 'graduated to the head of the class' into FAST by the rule making committee, but wow! I am trying to get him to come to Stanton with a head already pulled :Brow:
That reminds me of an 69 Camaro I saw at Norwalk a very long time ago. It was faded, looked shot, listed to one side, and ran 8s or 9s normally aspirated and with no NOS. The thing smoked at the end of the track, but kept pulling through the traps - never bottomed out.
I had a good look at that car.Man was it ever nice! Dan and Bob would have issues with the tire size and line lock. I hung around his car when the "debate" was goin on at etown. Hopin he would get mad enough to just be done with it and sell it right then and there. no such luck. congrats Ken! I say @#$%^ em if they can't take a joke!
What motor is in it, L-72? Was he passing it as a legal car or just a sleeper? Give us the rest of the poop! Jim
The owner makes some comments here, but says nothing about the car's specs- http://forums.factorystockmusclecars.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/362100271/m/4191083022
Well, I hope we get a new copo at certification next year. I think a tear down would be neat. Obviously, it needs to leagelly pass if it comes. No ringers if that is what Gonzo is sudjesting. :spank: Jim
Yep. And it should be given a thorough inspection. :TU: I know the Mopar guys don't want me around, but I'm sure they would agree to me checking out a Chev! ou:
Charm School Anyone else hear that...? That was the sound of Brian losing another group of friends! p
There are other ways to do that! (Oops, where did his address go?) I remember (kind of) the 'round table discussion in the wee hours of the morning at the PSMCDR '05. Mopar, FoMoCo, and GM were all represented at the table and many ideas were flowing freely. One of the ideas came down that certified cars should be held to a higher standard! Everything should work and function as from the factory (heater, lights, horn, wipers, etc....). To top it off, it was even mentioned that a 'cruise' would help to solidify the label. :TU: Of course, it was all a bunch of lushes and we slept it off! ou:
nothing to hide here Would not bother me in the least. I'm considering certifying next year. If someone would of told me that the engine in my car would take me to a 12.95 I would of probably said they were sniffing too many exhaust fumes.
...That's a good one...that stuff didn't work on our GTO when it was new! Somebody shot a screw through the wiring harness so the hi-beams have never worked, and the "reverb" unit was packed full of lead for ballast! :bglasses:
But........ I'm sure it left the factory with a firewall pad/insulation, the heater hoses from the engine went through the firewall and into an actual heater core and really had heated water flowing through them, and had sound deadener under the carpet, windshield wiper motor that wasn't hollow, a car battery that didn't have a motorcycle battery hidden inside of it,window's that rolled up and down, seat's with all the spring's and padding under the seat cover's,all of the factory wiring(not just the ignition circuit),etc o No:
Tom, What are you suggesting ? That some of those cars don't have a firewall pad ? Or non-working heaters ? Good thing when I Certified my W-31, all of that stuff worked. :bglasses: And God-forbid I couldn't listen to FM tunes on my working radio ........ :TU: Also kinda cool that I have all of the radio and heater delete stuff for my Biscayne, if I chose to do so .......... I say, have all of the Certified cars drive from the Alma Comfort Inn to the track on Friday.
...well...almost... :bglasses: It's a factory lightweight so there was no insulation or body sealer, no hood insulator, wider wheel tubs, no water in the heater and, as mentioned , the non functional reverb. Pretty trick stuff back in September of 1964. But I get your point... K
I shouldn't have quoted Keith. I should have quoted Donny, or at least the part about Certified car's being held to a higher standard. After all, the sole original purpose of the Certified Stock program was to prove that a car was not cheating :Smarty: And therefore would be the yardstick by which all other like vehicle's would be judged against to determine if other's were not on the up and up. So what good is the program if the engine meet's NHRA stocker rule's, but nothing else on the vehicle going through certified stock is checked?? The best example of certified stock, or the most accurate form of certification was done this year after the race on Pennington's Vette. At least we know he didn't change a bunch of stuff on the car late at night in his car trailer in the dark rear corner of the Hotel parking Lot :Smarty:
