What is the advantage or benefits of switching to a billet baseplate and metering block over keeping the stock configuration.

What is the diffrence between the 1000hp and the 1000hp ultra?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

The billet baseplates are nice. You get a slabbed shaft and better butterfly plates which are thinner on edge. They are more precise and the transfer slot seems to work better. You get idle circuits in all four corners with built in PV protection. They are stiffer and don't worp. On the race version carbs you often loose the rear vaccuum port which comes plugged on the billets. Worth as much as 30cfm. because they are machined the bore edge is very sharp which makes for better fuel sheering.

Billet metering blocks are really nice when they have threaded emulsion bleeds. The PV and idle restrictors are threaded for precise tuning. Depending on the brand there are 4 or 5 emulsion holes (besides the pulloff). I believe the holley Ultra has 5.

Then of cource they come in pretty colors.

Quick Fuel is the place to go!

    northcorner Guess what I'm thinking..

Great information David, I've also been wondering this for a while now. Do you think all the extra "adjustments" can make it faster for most racers, or is it mostly benificial for the "ultimate" street tuners or bracket racers?

I don't think the racers care that much. The only thing that matters to them is WOT performance. For those of us that try to run these on the street and need good partial throttle performce the adjustabilty is very nice. Of course there is the school of thought that says the more things to adjust the more that can be screwed up.

Me, I just like the pretty colors. :spank:

Does it make a performance difference? YES!!!

I'll give you a case in point. I'm divulging a secret that I've been silent about because we built a 10 second pump gas GSE car. Quick Fuel custom made 1050cfm 3 circuit 4150 based carb. This is a bored out 1000 with domi plates and a third bleed added. This carb. was developed on a buick big block for a well known buick racer. They cost a grand but well worth it.

What happened when installed. 1/4 second ET and .07 60ft over the very well calibrated Demon we had. On the second pass we noticed the converter was hurt bad. 4000 stall was now a 5300!!! Our 12 bolt posi unit started to slip badly from side to side.

Coan got the call. Now we've got a convert that holds the motor! Pyle brothers got the call on the rear, now the thing has a new Eaton with 800lb springs and racing clutches. "Driving" (street car!) back from Pyle brothers we do a quick 1-2 hop on concret to get the feel of her. Bam! broke the sprag in the TH400! WTF! Aribie's gets the call. 36 element sprag and race. We added a killer drive shaft for peice of mind after all this.

All because of this little carb upgrade. Be careful of wishing for more power, you just may get it!
