    With the cam I'm thinking of running I need about 9.75:1 static, so I'm keeping the deck tall and poping in the 10:1's. With the 8:1's zeroed I could get that but then there'd be no goign back if I wanna build it up again latter.

    WOW! going up to 12 :shock: would require a smaller converter and I'd lose streetability.

    The .060 is what my 350 is now. He was saying for the thin 1/16 rings he couldn't find them unless they were custom made by total seal for big bucks. But I haven't looked myself yet. So what is the cc of a 68 350 head before milling?

    Head chamber is supposed to be 58 according to specs. Never cc'd one .

    3.870" rings are made in 1.5mm top 1.5mm second and 3.00mm oil ring for Ford v6 pistons. You could either have the block honed to 3.870" and order the pistons that diameter or file down the ring gap .010"(file fit) to use the 3.870" rings with 3.860" pistons.:idea2:

    1.5mm = .05905"

    1/16 = .0625"

    3.00mm = .11811"

    3/16 = .1875"

    So yes,there is a possiblity to run thinner rings,you just have to tell them what size to make the ring grooves.

    Here's a list of the Ford pistons from Summit you could source rings from;

    Goodluck Ron,hope to see a winner with the 350 as well as the 455!!!:TU:

    I was thinking that there was a ring out there other than custom. Since I will file them anyway but there is a scratch in one of the cylinders so I will try to hone that out. I am trying to fix an old computer right now but will check those numbers soon. Thanks.

    How bad is the scratch? If its a vertical scratch,you don't need to worry about it to much if its not real wide.You don't have to try and hone it out if its a vertical scratch,it will fill with oil when its running. And you don't want to be out of spec on one cylinder because to much clearance will hurt ring seal more than a little scratch.

    Just make sure when you install the rings on the piston in that cylinder that the ring gaps are away from the scratch and it should be fine.(depending on what your definition is of scracth is)

    This looks like a crack to me but it's not crooked looking.

    Should be fine as long as its not a crack and the ring gaps are installed so they are away from it.

    It looks like it needs to be honed more anyway,when you're ball hone honing you need to go up and down faster so the hone scratches are at roughly at 45 degrees from each other to form a nice X pattern. Can still see on the surface of the cylinder the glaze isn't honed out all the way.

    I have never seen them straight line from the bottom all the way to the top. I need someone with a mag kit to check before spending money or I have the block still in the car that should be stock.

    If it ends up being a crack,you might be able to have it sleeved,I think it costs $90 to have a cylinder sleeved over here,it might be less expensive than having all the machine work done on the other block? Maybe have the shop toque plate hone it while they have it to make sure all the bores are the same size and round if you're going to get the customizeable pistons?(if a sleeve can fix it?)

    It would be a good idea to have them hone it because a sleeve may distort the cylinders next to it.

    X2 on the I would say its a scratch way to straight for a crack.

    Definitely a scratch. Look left to it, you'll see some more lines like someone tried to fit a piston in it and the rings made the lines. Probably from a bur or some other imperfection on one of the rings or oil ring, I'd say.
