Hi I have seen this partial Vinyl roof on some 72 skylarks and really like the way it looks. What is this called? Was this an option? a special edition? I would like to maybe find one of these cars. Thanks
Sounds like you are talking about the Sun Coupe option in 1972. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?263289-suncoupe-gurus&highlight=sun+coupe There was also a "Halo" vinyl top. The vinyl top did not go all the way down to the drip rails. http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=274683&d=1217383029
Actually, the half vinyl roof was part of the "350" package you could order. Not associated with the Sun Coupe option. Either or.
I had a 71 GS350 with a back half vinyl roof. I never saw another like it. I was not the original owner, so I don't know if it was factory, dealer, or aftermarket installed. There was a chrome molding between the vinyl and painted part of the roof. UticaGeoff
That may have been an add on, I'm pretty sure the factory tops had a painted grained trim molding there.
Guys, thanks, Yes it is the one in the add they are calling it the Sport Vinyl top. Not the Suncoupe. I Really like like the looks of it. Thanks
I was searching to find out if the 71 GS 350 4speed I just bought was factory or not when I came across this post. So, if it has the black front half and is trimmed with a black strip in the back, it was probably factory?
yes. i boudht a new 72riv. off the showroom floor dark gray black racingstripe over the roof back down to front fenders
